An independent veterinary practice in Berkshire is seeking an experienced Locum Veterinary Surgeon from Monday 27th July on an ongoing basis. The position will continue until a permanent Veterinary Surgeon is appointed. The practice requires someone who is confident performing routine surgical procedures and comfortable contributing to its weekend and evening rota.
The Role
- Four to five days per week, depending on the practice rota
- Requested working days may be considered but cannot be guaranteed
- Standard shifts start at 8:30am and finish between 5:30pm and 6:30pm
- Approximately one operating day per week, starting at 8am
- One late on-call shift per week until 9pm, with a 1pm start
- No overnight on-call
- 1:5 weekend rota
- Saturday or Sunday morning consultations, followed by on-call until 5pm
- Working across three branches located within 15–20 minutes of the main hospital
- Ongoing booking until the permanent vacancy is filled
During weekend on-call periods, the locum can leave the practice following morning consultations but must remain available to return for emergencies. The practice owner will be available for advice and support with complex cases.
Requirements
- RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon
- Confident with routine surgical procedures
- Comfortable working across multiple nearby branches
- Able to participate in the evening and weekend rota
Rate and Accommodation
The daily rate is negotiable depending on experience. Shared accommodation is available above the practice. The accommodation includes a private bedroom with a communal kitchen, living room and bathroom.
