We’re on a mission to make money work for everyone. Our research team is pivotal in helping us achieve that mission. Our research team at Monzo is currently made up of around 20 User Researchers, who spend most of their time embedded in multi-discipline teams focusing on different areas, like Wealth products, Borrowing products or Operations. We also have a small research leadership team, and a research operations lead who makes sure we’re set up to do our jobs and have the space to innovate safely.

Having a demonstrable impact on customers in a number of product areas, both directly and through the support you provide to others. Having a significant impact on improving your collective's annual metrics and commercial outcomes. Identifying and prioritising your efforts towards the biggest opportunities over different timescales, often saying no to the rest. Taking a broad perspective across Monzo to draw out the most important research questions in your collective, particularly those that fall beyond any one squad's focus.

Confidently running any type of research project, introducing new or unfamiliar approaches when necessary. Shaping projects that balance pace, quality and breadth of focus to have the most impact. Defining strategy within your collective by synthesising actionable insights from research, data and market analysis. Building narratives that tie together many threads of a complex problem or product area, flexing your communication style to create clarity about our users for a range of different audiences. Proactively connecting with leadership and others outside your discipline to maximise progress towards shared goals. Defining and socialising a clear point of view to meaningfully influence product strategy in your collective.

You independently navigate complex multi-squad projects, flagging risks and opportunities as direction changes and taking ownership of driving good outcomes. You drive improvements in areas outside of your immediate focus by making new connections and driving them to action. You identify and resolve challenges early, leaning into difficult conversations when necessary. You work with cross-functional partners at all levels and give timely, respectful feedback when needed.

You’re recognised as the expert in your field of research, upskilling the team around you by routinely mentoring, coaching or teaching others within research or other functions. You identify opportunities to increase everyone’s impact and help everyone belong by improving research-wide ways of working, following through to deliver positive changes in how we work holistically.

Not ticking every box? That’s totally okay! Studies show that women and people of colour might hesitate to apply unless they meet every single requirement. At Monzo, we’re dedicated to creating a diverse and welcoming team. If you’re passionate about this role and keen to learn and grow with us, we encourage you to apply— even if you don’t have everything that’s listed just yet.

What’s in it for you: We’ll help you relocate to the UK. We can sponsor your visa. This role can be based in our London office, but we’re open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London). We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, and at times that suit you and your team. £1,000 learning budget each year to use on books, training courses and conferences. We will set you up to work from home; all employees are given MacBooks, and for fully remote workers, we will provide extra support for your work-from-home setup.

The application journey has 3 key steps: An introduction call with our recruiter Natalie (30 mins), a technical ‘research methods’ task interview with 2 of our Research leadership team (60 minutes), and 2 x 45-minute interviews as part of the ‘final loop’. This process should take around 2-3 weeks - your schedule is really important to us, so we promise to be as flexible as possible!

You can also use this email address to let us know if there’s anything we can do to make the process easier for you because of disability, neurodiversity or anything else. We’ll only close this role once we have enough applications for the next stage. Please submit your application as soon as possible to make sure you don’t miss out.
