A growing and highly respected electrical and energy contractor is seeking a Senior Estimating & Pre-Construction Commercial Lead to play a key role in the next phase of its expansion. This is far more than a traditional estimating position. The successful candidate will sit at the centre of estimating, pre-construction, commercial management and project delivery – helping the business win the right work, improve tender conversion, protect margin and strengthen commercial control from tender stage through to project completion.

The business operates across electrical contracting, renewable energy, EV charging infrastructure, solar PV, battery storage and wider energy infrastructure projects, working with commercial clients, public sector frameworks and main contractors.

The Role

Working closely with senior leadership, you will help shape tendering strategy and commercial decision-making across the business. Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading or overseeing electrical estimating and pre-construction activity
  • Reviewing tender opportunities and supporting bid/no-bid decisions
  • Managing take-offs, labour allowances, subcontractor enquiries and pricing reviews
  • Improving tender conversion and commercial competitiveness
  • Supporting value engineering and commercial negotiations
  • Maintaining involvement throughout project delivery to protect tender assumptions and margin
  • Working closely with operations teams on labour productivity, variations and commercial performance
  • Supporting the development of broader M&E capability over time

This role offers genuine influence within the business and would suit someone who wants to contribute strategically rather than simply process tenders.

Candidate Profile

The client is interested in speaking with commercially astute construction professionals who combine technical credibility with strong commercial awareness. Suitable backgrounds may include:

  • Senior Electrical Estimator
  • Estimating Manager
  • Pre-Construction Manager
  • Commercial Manager with estimating experience
  • M&E Estimating or Pre-Construction Lead
  • Electrical Project Manager with strong commercial exposure

Essential Experience

Candidates should demonstrate experience within most of the following:

  • Electrical estimating within a contractor or M&E environment
  • Pricing projects from drawings and specifications
  • Tender adjudication and commercial risk assessment
  • Managing subcontractor and supplier enquiries
  • Labour/resource planning and productivity assessment
  • Tender handover into operations
  • Variation pricing and commercial recovery
  • Use of Trimble or similar estimating software
  • Main contractor tendering environments

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • M&E or mechanical estimating exposure
  • Renewable energy, EV charging, solar PV or battery storage projects
  • Public sector framework experience
  • NEC and/or JCT contract knowledge
  • Commercial reporting and margin tracking
  • Experience mentoring or leading estimating teams

The Opportunity

This is a senior appointment with significant long-term potential for the right individual. The business is investing heavily in strengthening its commercial capability and sees this role as central to future growth. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape processes, influence strategy and become a key figure within an ambitious and evolving organisation.

Package

A highly competitive salary and package is available, including potential bonus structure, vehicle or allowance, and longer-term progression opportunities, dependent on experience and capability.
