Fantastic opportunity exists for an experienced Deputy Headteacher at Helm Academy. Helm Academy is an innovative new SEN school dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for children with diverse learning needs. As a specialist children's home provider, our successful organic growth has led us to expand our mission, and we are excited to open our first Independent SEN & SEMH Specialist Schools (11-16) offering an alternative curriculum to young people with a range of SEMH special educational needs. As a Deputy Headteacher with SENCo responsibility, you will play an integral role supporting the Headteacher with the management and organisation across our academy in seeking to achieve the highest quality education and ensure the highest possible standard of pupil achievement and school efficiency. You will deputise in the absence of the Headteacher and act as a "Person in Charge" by managing daily operations where necessary. You'll have significant successful experience in leadership and management of a specialist setting. Your knowledge of The Code of Practice must be strong, and you will be able to implement systems and processes that will ensure statutory requirements are met effectively. You'll have a passion for primary SEND and a desire to ensure that all pupils receive the best possible education.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Deputy Headteacher with SENCo and LAC responsibility. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special educational needs, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. You will be responsible for developing and implementing the school's vision, curriculum, and policies while ensuring high-quality education and care for all students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • You will be accountable for measuring, monitoring, evaluating and improving standards within the Academy and ensure that there is a robust team approach to quality assurance that leads to improved outcomes.
  • Lead on admissions and transitions within the Academy and work collaboratively with the Local Authority and other agencies.
  • Responsible for effective and efficient systems being in place to ensure annual reviews of EHCP are undertaken and as a result pupils' needs are met, and provision is in place.
  • Working collaboratively with external agencies and the wider community, you will ensure the holistic needs of pupils are met and will lead an Outreach Programme which supports and improves provision for mainstream SEND pupils.
  • Be the named Individual for Looked after Children for the Local Authorities.
  • Support the Headteacher in formulating the aims and objectives of the schools and establishing the policies through which they are to be achieved.
  • Lead by example, holding and articulating clear values and moral purpose, and focusing on providing excellent education for all pupils.
  • Manage safeguarding across the school and act according to Keeping Children Safe in Education.
  • Support the Headteacher in providing curriculum leadership across the school.
  • Lead regular reviews of all school systems to ensure statutory requirements are being met and improved on where appropriate.
  • Support the Headteacher in Ofsted inspections.
  • Manage staff development programmes and school resources.
Entry Requirements:
  • A committed and passionate view of students with SEND.
  • Be a qualified teacher and SENCO.
  • Be able to support and lead the provision of SEND learning support across the whole school.
  • Have excellent subject knowledge including all relevant SEND legislation.
  • Hold relevant qualifications to be Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • At least two years' experience minimum of working in a SEND environment or similar unit/provision.
  • QTS/QTLS is a requirement of this post.
  • Significant experience in a leadership role within a SEN setting or a mainstream school with a commitment to inclusive education.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges faced by children with SEN and effective strategies to address these.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and improvement.
