Our client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for a Senior User Researcher to support the design and delivery of user-centred digital services within a public sector environment. This role will focus on leading research activities across the full digital service lifecycle, from Discovery and Alpha through Beta and Live, while ensuring services are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with user needs and organisational objectives.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in public sector user research, human-centred design, and multidisciplinary collaboration. This individual will play a key role in translating research findings into actionable insights that inform digital service design, policy, and strategic decision-making.

What you will do:

  • Conduct user research activities across Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live phases of digital service delivery.
  • Lead user engagement initiatives using a range of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Translate research findings into clear insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Content Designers, Interaction Designers, and multidisciplinary delivery teams.
  • Facilitate analysis and synthesis sessions to build consensus and challenge assumptions.
  • Apply human‑centred and empathetic research approaches to service design and improvement.
  • Design and execute inclusive research activities that support accessibility and diverse user needs.
  • Select and apply appropriate research methods based on product lifecycle stages and project objectives.
  • Support agile delivery teams by embedding user‑centred design practices into workflows.
  • Contribute strategic insights aligned with organisational goals, policies, and service objectives.
  • Help stakeholders understand user behaviours, service challenges, and digital opportunities.
  • Communicate research findings effectively to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Support continuous improvement of research processes, methodologies, and service experiences.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the social and technological context impacting government digital services.

Qualifications:

  • Active BPSS Clearance required.
  • Strong experience conducting user research within public sector environments required.
  • Experience supporting digital services through GDS assessments required.
  • Experience working across Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live service phases required.
  • Strong understanding of user‑centred design and human‑centred research methodologies required.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary agile teams required.
  • Experience collaborating with Product Managers, Content Designers, Interaction Designers, and technical teams required.
  • Strong analysis and synthesis skills with the ability to translate research into actionable insights required.
  • Experience conducting inclusive and accessible user research activities preferred.
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods required.
  • Understanding of digital technologies and their impact on user behaviour preferred.
  • Ability to align research activities with organisational strategy and service objectives preferred.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills required.
  • Experience within government digital service environments highly preferred.
