  • Our client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for a

Senior Data Architect to deliver effective solution designs within the Bank’s Enterprise Data Lake (EDL) and Operational Data Store (ODS) platforms on Cloudera in AWS.

The successful candidate will lead data design activities across large-scale distributed data projects, operating at both architecture and engineering levels within complex enterprise environments.

What you will do

  • Deliver effective solution designs across the Bank’s EDL and ODS platforms using Cloudera in AWS.
  • Lead data design activities across solution delivery and broader implementation programmes.
  • Design end-to-end data lake and distributed data solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Contribute to overall solution planning, factory estimation, and identification of technical risks, issues, and assumptions.
  • Review design artefacts produced by other Data Solution Architects within the factory team.
  • Define and derive data best practices, adopting industry standards and identifying technology or process remediation opportunities.
  • Produce required design artefacts independently or as part of a wider team.
  • Work with business and programme teams to refine data requirements.
  • Present solution designs to the Architecture Review Board when required.
  • Engage with stakeholders across the Group Data Office and wider business.
  • Support non-factory Solution Architects across change initiatives.
  • Ensure solutions align with strategic architecture principles and direction.
  • Review technical team designs to ensure alignment with the overall solution architecture.
  • Support delivery leads in breaking down solutions for iterative sprint-based delivery.
  • Support engineering functions across mapping, build, testing, and release.
  • Review requirements and monitor change requests to ensure solution designs remain fit for purpose.
  • Take ownership of complex data deliveries and provide hands-on technical support where required.
  • Apply modern engineering practices and technologies across data architecture and delivery.

Qualifications

  • Hold a third-level degree in a relevant discipline or demonstrate equivalent professional experience.
  • Bring extensive solution architecture experience designing large-scale distributed data solutions within complex, multi-vendor change delivery environments.
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of distributed data platforms, particularly Cloudera CDH/CDP or similar technologies across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Demonstrate experience processing large datasets, streaming data, and unstructured data sources using technologies such as Cassandra, HBase, Kafka, and Spark.
  • Bring strong ETL and data pipeline experience using modern big data technologies such as Airflow and Ni Fi or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate strong programming experience in Java, Python, or Scala.
  • Bring strong knowledge of data architecture principles, modern engineering practices, APIs, integration, streaming, and Change Data Capture.
  • Demonstrate experience designing data lakes and Operational Data Stores using Cloudera in AWS.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate at both architecture and hands-on engineering levels.
  • Bring experience working within complex enterprise IT estates and the ability to add value to projects and programmes quickly.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and take ownership of complex data deliveries.
  • Bring a continuous improvement and innovative mindset.
  • Demonstrate financial services experience as an advantage.
