  • Our client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for an

Environment Engineer to oversee the governance, management, and optimization of development, test, non-production, and production environments within a public sector programme.

The successful candidate will be responsible for defining environment management strategies, controlling environment usage, establishing governance processes, and ensuring effective coordination across technical delivery teams.

This role requires strong organizational skills, technical environment management experience, and the ability to provide visibility into environment utilization throughout the delivery lifecycle.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain a strategy for managing the flow of change into non-production and production environments.
  • Establish governance processes for environment management.
  • Control the use and allocation of existing environments.
  • Manage requests for additional environments.
  • Define and maintain environment ownership across delivery teams.
  • Provide visibility of environments during daily stand-up meetings.
  • Monitor and maintain an accurate understanding of environment usage.
  • Track environment utilization and capacity.
  • Support environment decommissioning activities where appropriate.
  • Coordinate with technical and delivery teams to ensure effective environment management.
  • Maintain environment governance documentation and standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve environment management processes.
  • Support delivery teams by ensuring environments are available and managed effectively.
  • Monitor compliance with established environment governance procedures.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience as an Environment Engineer, Environment Manager, or in a similar technical environment management role.
  • Experience managing production and non-production environments throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Strong understanding of environment management strategies and governance.
  • Experience controlling environment usage, allocation, and lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of change management processes across technical environments.
  • Experience monitoring environment utilization and supporting capacity planning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain environment ownership and governance processes.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Experience working within complex technical delivery or public sector environments is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • UK Passport Holder.
  • Eligible for BPSS, SC Clearance transfer, and NPPV3 clearance (approximately seven-week onboarding process).
