Hours: 4 on 4 off – Nights shift pattern, 40.36 hours per week

About the position:

To ensure the smooth operation of the warehouse function during the shift, reporting all activities including anomalies and discrepancies as and when required to the appropriate authorities.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Supervision and control of the warehouse operation and operatives which includes air, ocean, road, perishable & Healthcare.
  • Maintain performance and operational standards.
  • Correct loading, unloading and dispatching goods in line with the SOPs.
  • Complete necessary paperwork for inbound/outbound activity.
  • Report any anomalies with arriving vehicles immediately.
  • Ensure all goods received are signed for with a copy of the signed delivery note returned to the driver and a copy for the A&O office (as applicable).
  • Ensure drivers have the relevant paperwork prior to departure.
  • Strictly adhere to quality procedures and team quality targets.
  • Overall responsibility for supervision, training & development, health & safety, security & welfare of the team.
  • Communicate job expectations and coach staff.
  • Conduct daily team briefings to include company information as required.
  • Maintain highest levels of cleanliness, safety and security.
  • Co‑ordinate activities with other departments.
  • Communicate issues and concerns with recommendations to the Site Operations Manager.
  • Hand over accurate information to the next shift supervisor.
  • Plan and control the department’s day‑to‑day activities.
  • Manage departmental expenditure within agreed budgets.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance and take necessary action to improve.
  • Analyse and report performance & results to Senior Management Team for continual improvement.
  • Facilitate meetings as appropriate.
  • Ensure internal procedures and controls, including Quality Management Systems, SOPs & Company Handbooks are understood, updated and maintained.
  • Enforce internal procedures and controls.
  • Ensure continuing suitability, adequacy and effectiveness of internal procedures and controls.
  • Undertake regular sample checks of work to ensure all activity meets company procedures.
  • Liaise with other managers/supervisors to maximise communication and collaboration.
  • Manage sickness and absence activity, including Return to Work interviews.
  • Effectively manage holidays to keep the department well‑staffed.
  • Lead, manage, motivate and develop people.
  • Recruitment activities in line with company procedures, utilising HR support when applicable.
  • Effective performance management of team/department.
  • Manage conduct and performance matters, including Discipline, Grievance and Capability.
  • Recognise and reward staff performance appropriately.
  • Plan and evaluate training and development of staff.
  • Train and mentor staff within own authority and resource limits.
  • Undertake procurement activities in line with agreed parameters.

About you:

The ideal candidate will be educated in Maths and English (oral and written) to GCSE, Standard Grade or equivalent; grade A‑C and be able to demonstrate highly competent computer skills in all areas of Microsoft Office. We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate customer service excellence and effective communication skills.

Working knowledge of Warehouse Systems in a Freight Forwarding / Logistics environment. Proven experience in Supervisory Team Leader role. Full FLT licence counter balance.
