- : Full time, 37.5 hours per week, 08.30am – 17.00pm Monday to Friday (Fixed Term Contract)
About the position
The purpose of the Road & Rail Import Operator is to manage the inbound day to day groupage routes and adhere to various Network duties as outlined below.
Whilst the Operator will have a responsibility for Imports they will also be required to provide cover in other areas of the department when required.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities will include
• Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
- Liaising with our European Partners and Customers to find resolutions to any arising challenges within agreed SLA’s.
- Ensuring the accurate entry of data into the operational system such as processing of EDI’s, unload reports etc. To meet both individual Partner and System Alliance expectations.
- Use provided customs system to check pre-lodged entries, ensuring that all charges in accordance with each entry are logged and communicated efficiently and accurately to the relevant department for charging and payment.
- Quality control all Partner data, ensuring that terms, text codes and routing are correct, and cost effective, ensuring all EDIs are processed in line with expectations.
- Finalise unload reports, dealing with damages, excess and dimension changes swiftly and correctly.
- Understand partner agreements and tariffs, ensuring all additional revenue is captured.
- Accurate use of the customs system for consignments arriving on Transit documents, paying close attention to detail, and ensuring all processes are followed and completed.
- Liaising with our European Partners and Customers to find resolutions to any arising challenges within agreed SLA’s.
- Daily maintenance of files ensuring all documentation is filed accurately.
- Check all shipment documentation, including hazardous paperwork, escalate any discrepancies with our onsite DGSA.
- First point of customer escalation for Partners and their customers both internal and external, developing a strong and productive relationship.
- Meet and wherever possible exceed customer expectations within the individual Partners budgetary and operational restrictions.
- Spotting and developing additional revenue and business opportunities. Provide quotations to Partners for out of tariff and special requirement consignments.
- Undertake training where necessary to be proficient in all Partner requirements, including specific accounts and customers, such as Endress & Hauser and Systemplus.
- To provide cover and support for other areas of the team when needed.
- Correct handling of potential claims.
- Be compliant at all times and ensure that all regulatory paperwork is in accordance with government guidelines and customs compliance procedures.
- Help to contribute and adhere to our highly acclaimed ISO accreditations for Quality, Energy and Environmental Management.
- Provide high standards of customer service in a friendly and positive manner.
- Work within a fast-paced environment with a can do attitude and a willingness to learn, within a strong and supportive team and have a willingness to contribute to a positive working environment.

About you
The ideal candidate will be educated in Maths and English (oral and written) to GCSE, Standard Grade or equivalent; grade A-C and be able to demonstrate highly competent computer skills in all areas of Microsoft office.
- 12 months Knowledge & experience of working in a Road Freight environment.
- Experience of working within a customer facing environment.
- Good knowledge of geographical areas within the UK
- High level of accuracy with attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively under own initiative.
- Hard working, diligent with a flexible adaptable approach.
- Good team player.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
