Overview
Responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the warehouse, creating a safe environment to work in, where employees are motivated to work as part of a team. Leading by example, with a hands-on approach. Areas include Goods In, Despatch, Storage, Inventory Management, Warehouse Health & Safety, Equipment and Team Leadership.
Key responsibilities
- Track and monitor warehouse performance daily to optimise output and report to the Operations Manager in line with defined KPI’s.
- Daily interaction with the team to identify potential issues and bottlenecks and implement solutions.
- Ensure accurate inventory levels are maintained in SAP and provide root cause analysis for high value losses and gains.
- Manage the stock count process to ensure 100% bins are counted within a year and lead the annual external sample count.
- Manage goods-in discrepancies in a timely manner, working closely with the purchasing and finance team.
- Identify and resolve stock problems with the assistance of the Warehouse team and implement corrective actions.
- Pro-actively manage space and resolve capacity issues within the warehouse.
- Manage overtime, absenteeism and authorisation of holiday requests in line with HR policies.
- Manage day-to-day employee relations within the warehouse, ensuring a positive, fair, and consistent working environment.
- Lead and support investigations into workplace issues, including misconduct, attendance, performance, and conflict resolution, ensuring timely and confidential handling.
- Ensure that warehouse employees are competent and fully trained in all aspects of their work including compulsory Health & Safety modules, and records are updated and accurate.
- Monitor team performance and carry out regular employee reviews, building and implementing corrective action plans to improve performance.
- Calculate monthly bonus payments for both permanent and temporary employees, ensuring accuracy and alignment with agreed performance criteria.
- Develop SOP’s and Policies in collaboration with the Operations Manager to promote a proactive safety culture.
- Ensure risk assessments for the area are reviewed and up to date.
- Implement safe working practices and good housekeeping to ensure health and safety within the warehouse complies with statutory and company requirements, working in partnership with our 3rd party H&S Consultants for guidance.
- Investigate Incidents, Accidents and Near Misses to prevent recurrence, keeping accurate records and implementing corrective actions.
- Oversee the planned maintenance of warehouse MHE and equipment. Ensure that servicing records are up to date including LOLER and PUWER checks and any necessary remedial work is completed.
- Manage and support ad-hoc project work as required for warehouse development.
- Work such extra time as appropriate to fulfil your duties as and when necessary.
Working Relationships
Working in partnership with the Operations Manager and Team Leader, and all employees within the Logistics business unit. Building strong relationships with all support functions including Customer Services, Sales, Finance, Purchasing, HR, IT and Contractors.
Skills & Knowledge
- Experience of leading and motivating a small team.
- Expertise in warehouse procedures and best practice including Health & Safety.
- Experience in the use of a Warehouse Management System, ideally SAP including PBV and RF scanning.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel and Word).

- Fork-Lift Truck Licences or willingness to learn (Man-up, Counterbalance, Reach Truck, Pallet Truck).

- Automotive/mechanical/electrical knowledge.
