We are seeking an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to lead and support automation and controls systems within an industrial manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for designing, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting PLC- and HMI-based systems while partnering closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to drive reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and industrial control systems
- Lead controls efforts for new equipment, upgrades, and capital projects
- Support commissioning and startup of automated manufacturing systems
- Diagnose and resolve complex electrical, controls, and automation issues
- Develop and maintain control system documentation and standards
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and IT teams on system integration
- Mentor junior controls engineers and technicians
- Ensure compliance with safety, electrical, and manufacturing standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years of controls/automation experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
- Strong PLC programming experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent)
- Experience with HMIs, VFDs, motion control, and industrial networks
- Proven experience leading automation projects from concept through commissioning
- Ability to troubleshoot complex systems under production pressure
- Designing and de-energizing electrical components that deliver power through pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with robotics, vision systems, or SCADA
- Knowledge of safety PLCs and machine safety standards
- Prior experience mentoring or leading technical teams
