About Us: At Helio Display Materials, we're crafting the fundamental materials that will shape the future of displays. Using the power of perovskites, these enabling materials facilitate the creation of displays that are not only brighter and more vibrant but also operate with remarkably low power consumption. Our team is dedicated to pioneering the future of colour. As we accelerate, we are looking for talented individuals to join us on the next phase of our journey.

About the Role: We are seeking a highly motivated synthetic/process development chemist to play a pivotal role in the development of our perovskite nanocrystal technology. Acting as a technical bridge between our research and scale-up teams, you will develop a deep understanding of the synthetic chemistry underpinning both our nanocrystal materials and organic ligands. Your focus will be on transforming promising R&D developments into robust, transferable synthetic methodologies through careful experimentation, process understanding and data-driven decision making. The insights you generate will directly inform scale-up strategies and enable the rapid deployment of new developments into small-scale production. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where scientific depth, practical problem-solving, and hands-on experimentation are equally valued.

Our Values: Knowledge Driven Unity

Location: Based in our custom built lab and office in Oxford.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute synthesis, purification and characterisation experiments.
  • Develop deep technical understanding of novel synthetic routes for perovskite nanocrystals and organic ligands.
  • Work closely with the scale-up, core-research and analytical teams.
  • Build process knowledge and experimental evidence to guide future manufacturing decisions.
  • Propose and utilise relevant analytical strategies to monitor reaction performance and product quality.
  • Apply statistical methods to extract insight, identify critical parameters and guide process development decisions.
  • Provide technical leadership for process development projects - defining development strategies and establishing realistic timelines.
  • Keep detailed records of experiments and processes.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental procedures.

Experience & Attributes:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline with 3+ years of industrial experience; or MSc/BSc with significant industrial process chemistry experience.
  • Deep understanding of synthetic chemistry, ideally with experience in nanomaterials, crystallisation and/or colloidal chemistry.
  • Demonstrated experience in an industrial environment working on development of organic and/or inorganic chemical synthesis.
  • Confident handling large datasets across multiple experiments and employing statistical analyses to maximise insight and understanding (e.g. in JMP, Minitab or equivalent).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, and the ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Self-motivated, well organised and proactive.

Advantageous:

  • Experience working in a fast-paced technology development environment.
  • Direct experience developing or optimising nanocrystal syntheses.
  • Demonstrated success leading the development of synthetic processes from laboratory to pilot scale.
