Job Summary

Responsible for ensuring aircraft and weather conditions are airworthy to transport medical crew and patient to receiving hospital within an assigned operational area. Must comply with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), General Operations Manual guidelines (GOM), and Air Methods policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate Air Methods aircraft safely and legally.
• Perform pre‑flight inspections, sign off the Daily Flight Log, and conduct a complete walk‑around before and after each flight.
• Exercise final authority over aircraft operations and passenger, cargo, and equipment safety.
• Maintain familiarity with all aircraft and medical systems, including backup aircraft, and ensure the flight team is comfortable with the medical interior and systems.
• Complete required documentation accurately.
• Conduct detailed flight planning on short notice to meet exacting standards.
• Participate regularly in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Job Requirements

• Regular scheduled attendance (7/7 schedule – 12 hour shifts).

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Pay Scale – Based on flight and EMS experience: Step A $82,900; Step B $86,216; Step C $89,665; Step D $93,251.
• Education & Experience – Associate’s degree or equivalent with 2–5 years related experience, or a bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Operation and Safety Requirements – Weight not to exceed 250 lb and age less than 70 years.
• Skills – Positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals and the public; strong safety judgment; VFR flying within the last 24 months.
• Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Program – 2000 total flight hours, at least 1500 in category, 1000 PIC in category, 500 rotor‑wing turbine hours, 200 cross‑country flight hours (including at least 50 night hours), 100 unaided night PIC hours (50 could be substituted by 100 NVG hours, but not below 50 unaided), and 50 instrument hours (a FW‑rated RW candidate may reduce required RW instrument time to 25 hours).
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations – Instrument rating for category and class of aircraft (ATP rating satisfies this requirement); fixed‑wing multi‑engine rating for twin‑engine aircraft; commercial single‑engine land for single‑engine aircraft; First or Second Class FAA medical certificate required.
