About the Role
Are you a technical or scientific graduate with strong Python skills looking for an exciting entry-level role that combines hands-on engineering, coding, and real-world client interaction? We are recruiting on behalf of a pioneering UK technology company seeking a Graduate / Early-Career Field Applications Engineer. This is a rare opportunity to join a cutting-edge team where you will work with advanced technologies, solve complex technical challenges, and support international business growth. This role provides structured onboarding, direct mentorship, and a clear progression pathway into specialised engineering, product development, or commercial leadership roles.
What You Will Be Doing
As a Field Applications Engineer, you will bridge the gap between core engineering development and client-facing technical support.
- Application Development: Use Python, Git, and Jupyter Notebooks to conduct experiments, analyse data, and build prototypes or proof-of-concept demonstrations.
- Customer Collaboration: Interact directly with international clients and partners, translating their technical requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- On-Site & Remote Support: Deliver technical demonstrations, set up field trials, and troubleshoot products both remotely and on-site.
- Global Travel: Travel internationally (across Europe, the US, and Asia) to support projects, client engagements, and exhibitions.
- Technical Documentation: Produce clear, comprehensive technical reports, lab notes, user documentation, and presentation materials.
Key Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must possess:
- Degree Qualification: A graduate degree (BSc, BEng, MSc, or equivalent) in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related scientific discipline.
- Essential Python & Data Skills: Strong practical familiarity using Python (alongside Git and Jupyter Notebooks) for problem-solving, data analysis, or prototyping.
- Scientific & Hardware Aptitude: A solid scientific background with the ability to interpret complex technical challenges and demonstrate hardware solutions.
- Excellent Communication: Flawless written and verbal English skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences clearly.
- Flexibility for Travel: Willingness and capability to undertake domestic and international travel, occasionally at short notice, once fully onboarded.
- Analytical Mindset: A practical, hands-on approach to troubleshooting, experimentation, and keeping meticulous technical notes.
Desirable Experience (Not Essential)
While this is an entry-level position and full training is provided, exposure to any of the following is advantageous:
- Computer vision, image processing, photonics, or optical systems.
- Laboratory experimentation, field trials, or prototype testing.
- Experience working in customer-facing environments or research collaborations.
Working Pattern & Onboarding
- Hybrid Model: Based in the UK, working 3 days per week in the office/laboratory to access specialized equipment, combined with home working and international travel as required.
- Structured Growth: Month 1 focuses on technical onboarding and product familiarity. Months 2–3 involve supporting partner projects remotely and in person. Post-probation, you will take full ownership of client-facing and engineering activities.
