This role offers the opportunity to deliver high quality, neuro affirming autism and ADHD assessments for children and young people, while being part of a values led organisation that genuinely prioritises clinician wellbeing, professional autonomy and clinical excellence. Main duties of the job

  • Play a key role in contributing to autism and ADHD diagnostic assessments for children and young people under 18 (up to 25 with an EHCP).
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, gathering and analysing assessment information, contributing to formulation, and producing high quality, neuro affirming reports.
  • Engage with children, young people and their families throughout the assessment process, offering guidance, clarity and post diagnostic support where appropriate.
  • Work alongside colleagues and partner agencies, contributing to MDT discussions, and supporting clinical excellence across neurodevelopmental pathways.
  • Contribute to service development and further develop specialist assessment skills with supervision and CPD support.

Job responsibilities

  • Location: Hybrid in person clinics with some remote working (clinic location to be one of those listed).
  • Hours: Fulltime preferred; flexible across weekdays 37.5 hours.
  • Contract: Permanent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the diagnostic assessment of autism in children and young people under 18.
  • Contribute, alongside colleagues, to ADHD and other neurodevelopmental assessments where appropriate.
  • Work under the guidance of senior clinicians to provide advice, guidance and support to families and professionals.
  • Deliver tailored, evidence based, outcome focused and time limited support to families of neurodivergent children and young people.
  • Provide post diagnostic support and signposting.
  • Produce high quality, neuro affirming written reports in line with best practice standards.
  • Participate in MDT discussions and support collaborative clinical decision making.
  • Support clinical excellence across the Autism and ADHD pathways.
  • Maintain high standards of record keeping and information governance.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Experience contributing to autism and/or ADHD assessments for children and young people.
  • Training in relevant assessment tools (e.g. ADOS2, ADIR, DIVA, ACE or equivalent).
  • Experience using a range of specialist assessment and intervention tools.
  • Experience writing high quality, neuro affirming clinical reports.
  • Knowledge of national and local autism and ADHD policy and legislation.
  • Understanding of multidisciplinary and/or multiagency working.
  • Knowledge of standards of clinical record keeping.
  • Experience working with neurodivergent children, children with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs.
  • Experience developing or delivering support packages for parents and families.
  • Experience of multiagency partnership working within health, education or social care.

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree in professional specialism (e.g. Nursing, Allied Health Professional, Social Work, Education).
  • Registered member of a relevant professional body (e.g. NMC, HCPC, SWE, RCOT).
  • Post registration qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience to postgraduate diploma level (minimum 1 year).
  • Additional specialist training in neurodevelopmental assessment.

  • Strong understanding of the needs of autistic children and their families.
  • Insight into the changing needs of neurodivergent individuals across childhood.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within MDT environments.
  • Clear, compassionate communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ongoing professional interest in autism and neurodevelopment.
  • Competence using information gathering and clinical reporting systems.
  • Willingness to further develop specialist knowledge and skills.
