About the role
Reporting to the Head of UK Tax, you'll be an integral member of our UK Tax team, partnering with stakeholders to support business initiatives and provide advice on UK tax matters. You'll also support the Head of UK Tax in identifying planning opportunities and areas of potential tax exposure. A key focus of this role is VAT and indirect tax, alongside broader UK tax responsibilities. You'll provide practical, commercially focused advice across both direct and indirect tax matters, helping ensure decisions are tax efficient and compliant. You'll act as HEINEKEN UK's first point of contact with UK tax authorities and work closely with our wider Global Tax team. The role combines hands‐on technical tax work with business partnering, supporting a wide range of commercial and operational activity across the business.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the tax planning process on specific transactions, whether tax‐initiated or commercial, with consideration of both direct and indirect tax (particularly VAT) impacts, to minimise tax exposure while ensuring full compliance with UK and overseas tax law.
- Provide tax compliance support as required, working with the Head of UK Tax and wider team to ensure compliance with the Heineken Tax Control Framework and HMRC direct and indirect tax requirements, with a strong focus on VAT accuracy and governance.
- Act as a key point of expertise for VAT and indirect tax matters, supporting the business with clear, practical guidance.
- Engage external advisors where appropriate, including supporting HMRC clearances and technical discussions.
- Coach individuals in the business and shared service centre on tax issues, delivering training and supporting continuous improvement in processes, procedures and systems.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for a CA or CTA qualified tax professional, ideally with experience in an in‐house tax function, although candidates from professional practice or HMRC will also be considered. Ideally you will have VAT and indirect tax experience, along with a solid grounding across wider UK tax. You'll be comfortable operating across both direct and indirect tax matters, acting as a trusted advisor to the business and a subject‐matter expert where needed. You'll be confident translating complex tax issues into clear, commercial advice and supporting decision‐making across a fast‐moving business environment. Strong communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across the business. Confidence challenging decisions constructively and independently. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously. A proactive mindset, with a focus on improving processes and supporting business outcomes.
