Salary: £40,000 - £44,000

Function: Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)


About the Role

We are looking for a knowledgeable and proactive SHE Training Coordinator to oversee the coordination, quality, compliance and performance of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) training across Heidelberg Materials UK.


This role plays a key part in ensuring our workforce has the skills, knowledge and competence required to operate safely and effectively. You will act as the subject matter expert for SHE learning, managing training programmes, maintaining competence frameworks and training records, supporting our Learning Management System (Pathway), and working closely with internal stakeholders and external training providers.

The successful candidate will combine strong SHE knowledge with training expertise, data analysis skills and a passion for continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

SHE Training Planning and Delivery

  • Coordinate and oversee the national planning, scheduling and delivery of SHE training programmes for employees, managers and senior leaders.
  • Ensure training delivery aligns with legal requirements, operational risks, competence standards and business priorities.
  • Provide advice and guidance to employees and managers on SHE training processes and requirements.
  • Monitor attendance, utilisation and training effectiveness, taking action to improve participation and minimise cancellations.
  • Maintain accurate training records, certification and evidence of competence within the Learning Management System (LMS).


Technical SHE Training Authority

  • Act as the technical authority for SHE training content, standards and competence requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant SHE legislation, guidance, National Occupational Standards and industry best practice.
  • Interpret legislative and technical requirements and advise stakeholders on training implications.
  • Design, develop and review SHE training programmes, materials and assessments.
  • Ensure training content aligns with the Integrated Management System (IMS), Pathway and MPA Safety by Competence requirements.
  • Support the development of classroom, virtual, blended and e-learning solutions.


Training Matrices and Competence Assurance

  • Maintain and review SHE training matrices in collaboration with operational and SHE stakeholders.
  • Ensure competence requirements reflect legal obligations, business needs and operational risk.
  • Define learning outcomes, refresher periods, equivalencies, exemptions and assessment requirements.
  • Identify gaps in training provision and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Ensure competence requirements are accurately reflected in Pathway and related reporting systems.


SHE Training Catalogue Management

  • Own and maintain the SHE training catalogue.
  • Ensure course information, delivery methods, prerequisites, assessment requirements and certification details remain current.
  • Review training provision against business requirements, legislative changes and operational risks.
  • Identify opportunities to improve learning through innovative delivery methods and technology.
  • Communicate training opportunities and catalogue updates across the business.


Pathway (LMS) Subject Matter Expert

  • Act as the primary point of contact for Pathway-related SHE learning queries.
  • Provide user support and guidance to managers, employees, trainers and providers.
  • Support system development, testing, configuration and continuous improvement activities.
  • Validate training data integrity, reporting accuracy and compliance records.
  • Deliver training and support to users on learning system functionality and processes.


Training Provider Management

  • Manage day-to-day relationships with SHE training providers.
  • Monitor delivery quality, schedules, certification processes and service performance.
  • Review provider competency, training content and assessment arrangements.
  • Support provider selection activities, quotations, contracts and performance reviews.
  • Escalate significant risks, commercial concerns or performance issues where appropriate.


Performance, Reporting and Continuous Improvement

  • Produce and present SHE training KPI reports, including compliance, completion rates, utilisation, cancellations, costs and provider performance.
  • Analyse performance trends and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure training data is accurate and reconciled across systems.
  • Provide performance forecasts and recommendations to support decision making.
  • Evaluate learning effectiveness and recommend enhancements to training content, systems and delivery methods.


Finance and Administration

  • Support invoice reconciliation and resolution of training-related payment issues.
  • Monitor training costs and contribute to budget forecasting and reporting.
  • Keep the SHE Training Hub accurate, current and engaging.
  • Communicate learning opportunities and updates to employees and managers.
  • Contribute to internal communications, case studies and promotional activities relating to SHE learning.


Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with SHE leaders, operational managers, subject matter experts and training colleagues to identify learning needs.
  • Communicate SHE training priorities, requirements and updates across the organisation.
  • Support Heidelberg Materials' representation within industry bodies, including MPA and MPQC.
  • Participate in technical working groups and industry forums.
  • Support wider training and SHE initiatives as required.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Certificate, IEMA Certificate or equivalent SHE qualification.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental management principles.


Desirable Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Diploma, IEMA Diploma or equivalent.
  • IOSH or IEMA professional membership.
  • AET, PTLLS, PGCE or equivalent training/teaching qualification.
  • Train the Trainer qualification.


Essential Experience

  • Experience of SHE training design, coordination and delivery within an industrial, manufacturing, production or operational environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant SHE legislation, competence standards and industry good practice.
  • Experience managing Learning Management Systems and supporting end users.
  • Experience maintaining training matrices, compliance records and reporting frameworks.
  • Experience managing external training providers and quality assurance processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present performance data.
  • Ability to translate technical and legal requirements into practical training solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
