Purpose of the Role

The Senior Quality Control Technician is responsible for data analysis, routine inspection/testing, and sampling of concrete and aggregates in accordance with Heidelberg Materials UK standards and EDF guidelines. The role involves managing and conducting activities related to Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality as outlined in operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety

  • Adhere to H&S, Environmental, and Quality standards.

Testing & Quality Control

  • Perform laboratory and field tests on concrete and aggregate materials, such as aggregate sampling, slump tests, and compressive strength tests.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards like ASTM, BS EN, and local regulations.
  • Analyze test data and prepare detailed reports.

Material Inspection

  • Inspect raw materials for quality and suitability.
  • Monitor on-site material deliveries and verify against specifications.

Supervision & Mentorship

  • Supervise junior technicians, providing guidance and training.
  • Review and approve test results submitted by team members.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate logs, calibration records, and test databases.
  • Prepare reports for clients, contractors, and QA teams.

Compliance & Safety

  • Follow testing and sampling safety protocols and standards.

Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with contractors and quality managers on material issues.
  • Participate in site visits for sampling and condition assessment.
  • Follow EDF Code of Conduct for Sizewell C.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Follow and comply with NNB Health & Safety procedures and Heidelberg policies.
  • Inspect materials and perform sampling/testing as per procedures.
  • Analyze concrete batch tickets for compliance and report findings.
  • Coordinate with EDF contractors and office to ensure quality standards.
  • Inspect incoming raw materials and report discrepancies.
  • Report defects or issues affecting health, safety, environment, or quality.
  • Ensure site safety, cleanliness, and security.
  • Maintain good relationships with third parties and contractors.
  • Perform any additional duties as required.

Job Requirements

  • Contribute to cost-effective product manufacturing through technical support.
  • Maintain product quality levels aligned with operational and customer needs.
  • Provide technical support to commercial, operational, and external customers.
  • Perform sampling and testing of concrete, asphalt, and quarry products according to standards.
  • Investigate and report on quality issues at sites and depots.
  • Review water demands, site practices, and delivery issues.
  • Raise NCRs and Near Miss reports as appropriate.
  • Promote safety and quality awareness.
  • Assist with transportation of test specimens.

Educational & Qualification Requirements

  • Good general education with understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Level 1 award training, CSCS card, NVQ qualification, optional SSSTS.
