Purpose of the role
It is the duties of the Quality Control Technician, to routinely inspect/test and take samples of concrete and aggregates in accordance with Heidelberg Materials UK company standards and those set-out by EDF. Manage and conduct all activities as stated within the operational procedures for, Health & Safety, Environmental, & Quality.
The key areas of responsibly are:
Health & Safety:
- H&S, Environmental, Quality
Testing & Quality Control:
- Perform laboratory and field tests on concrete and aggregate materials (e.g., Aggregate sampling, slump test, compressive strength).
- Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ASTM, BS EN, or local regulations.
- Analyse test data and prepare detailed reports.
Material Inspection:
- Inspect raw materials (cement, sand, Limestone, admixtures) for quality and suitability.
- Monitor on-site material deliveries and verify against specifications.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate logs, sampling data, Aggregate moisture testing
Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure all testing and sampling procedures follow safety protocols and regulatory standards.
Project Coordination:
- Participate in site visits to collect Aggregate samples and assess conditions.
- Adhere to EDF Code of Conduct for Sizewell C
Key Accountabilities
- To follow & comply with NNB Health & Safety procedures & Heidelberg Materials UK policies as to conform to the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974. Actively reporting Near Misses & issues to site management. Insuring all site personnel work in safe & responsible manner.
- To carefully inspect materials and to accurately sample and test them in accordance with approved procedures.
- Analyse concrete batch tickets to ensure compliance to the prescribed mix design
- To visually inspect and check all incoming raw materials and report discrepancies to the Production / Technical Manager immediately.
- To report any defect, action or occurrence that may jeopardise materials in any respect of health & safety, the environment, product quality and service.
- To be familiar with and ensure full compliance with EDF policies on health & safety, the environment, quality control, fraud prevention and the Competition Act (RTP).
- To ensure that the site, and associated buildings are kept in a clean, tidy and in a safe condition at all times.
- To maintain the security of the site
- To create and maintain, a working relationship between all third parties and contractors for everyone’s mutual benefit.
- To carry out additional duties as may from time to time be necessary.
Job Requirements
- Maximising the contribution of the technical departments towards ensuring cost effective product manufacture.
- Establishing and maintaining product quality levels consistent with commercial/operational drivers and customer requirements.
- Other duties as requested by your manager
- Carry out sampling, field testing and specimen preparation of Concrete and Quarry products in accordance with relevant British / European standards and company procedures.
- Review of water demands in RMC including plant M.C testing
- Review of site practice
- Review product consistence variances
- Challenge behaviours which demonstrate a negative attitude towards safety and/or quality.
- Assist with transportation of test specimens.
Education/Qualification
- Good general education required and large amount of health and safety regulations / Environmental compliance are required to be understood and carried out.
- Level 1 award training
- CSCS for construction sites and triple bar nuclear new build
- SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme) Optional
- NVQ qualification
