We\'re Hiring: Marine Compliance Manager & Deputy DPA
Are you passionate about maritime safety and operational excellence? We\'re looking for a Marine Compliance Manager & Deputy Designated Person Ashore (DPA) to join our Operations Management Team and play a pivotal role in the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of our fleet.
- Champion Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental compliance across our sea staff (130+ indirect reports).
- Support the continuous development of our Safety Management System, ensuring full compliance with statutory and industry standards.
- Lead and support investigations, drive improvements, and help shape a culture of safety and accountability.
- Provide strategic and administrative support to the Marine Operations Manager & DPA.
Key Accountabilities
- To support the Marine Operations Manager & DPA to ensure Fleet availability through compliance with statutory legislation, Company policies and procedures.
- To act as Deputy Designated Person (“DDPA”) and Deputy Company Security Officer (“DCSO”) and assume the full range of statutory duties and responsibilities of the Designated Person (“DPA”) and Company Security Officer, involving out of office hour / weekend periods at agreed times.
- To support the Marine Operations Manager & DPA with the development and evolution of the Company’s Safety Management System (“SMS”) in accordance with section 1.2.2 and 1.2.3 of the International Safety Management (“ISM”) Code.
- To support the Marine Operations Manager & DPA with the administration of the Company’s Safety Management System including, but not limited to the drafting of policies, procedures, fleet directives and memos and risk assessments.
- To organise internal ISM & ISPS audits and ensure records from such audits are processed accordingly.
- To support the Marine Operations Manager & DPA with corrective and preventative action in relation to Non-Conformities and Observations raised as a result of surveys and inspections.
- To support the Marine Operations Manager & DPA by spending time on board Company ships in port and at sea (at agreed times) in order to coach and provide support to sea staff to assure compliance with the requirements of the Company’s safety management system to standardise practices across the fleet and provide safety and emergency response training.
- When assigned as an Investigation Manager to Accidents and Near Hits / Hazardous Occurrences, carry out and/or ensure investigations are completed and formulate appropriate actions in order to prevent recurrence.
- To liaise with Flag and Port State Authorities, classification societies and other stakeholders, as required.
- To support the Marine Operations Manager & DPA in delivering to Company ships, Fleet Management and Production & Resources departments technical advice concerning port interfaces, berths and any marine-related advice.
- To undertake ad-hoc project as and when required.
- Must have significant seafaring experience in senior role, preferably as Chief Mate, Safety Officer or Master.
- Experience working on tankers or specialised ship-types an advantage.
- Previous shore based experience an advantage.
- Knowledge of marine aggregate industry an advantage
- Must hold a full driving licence
- Must be eligible for residence and free movement within the EU
- Higher Education – a degree in Marine related subject desirable.
- Chief Mate Unlimited (or Higher) Certificate of Competency required.
- Significant experience within a senior management role on board merchant ships with Safety related responsibilities.
