Graduate Quantity Surveyor in Road Surfacing – £30,937paJoin us as a Graduate Quantity Surveyor and launch your career in contracting and commercial management. Our Program is 2 years and from day one, you\’ll be working on live projects, gaining practical experience, and developing your skills with the full support of our expert team. We are looking for a Graduate Quantity Surveyor to work in our Road Surfacing Division. We are the 3rd largest asphalt laying contractor in the UK and build a wide range of roads from our Strategic Road Network (Motorways and A Roads) to Local Council roads.
What you\’ll learnContract Financial Management
Oversee measurement, valuation, payment, and reporting for allocated contracts.
Ensure timely application and collection of revenue in accordance with contract terms.
Monitor customer payments, including maintenance periods and staged payments.
Commercial Support
Assist the Commercial department with pre-contract and tender activities.
Negotiate and agree terms and conditions for contracts and sub-contracts, liaising with legal advisors as needed.
Procurement & Subcontractor Engagement
Participate in the procurement process and engagement of subcontractors and suppliers.
Define responsibilities and establish terms and conditions for subcontractor agreements.
Prepare and agree subcontractor payment certificates.
Financial Reporting & Forecasting
Establish financial control systems for contract execution.
Manage revenue, cost, cash collection, and reporting throughout the contract lifecycle.
Produce financial and commercial reports and forecasts for the Managing QS and other stakeholders.
Compliance & Safety
Report any unsafe practices observed during site visits.
Quantity SurveyorAfter completing the programme the career pathway leads to Quantity Surveyor role where you\’ll take ownership of commercial delivery on key projects. You\’ll apply everything you\’ve learned to lead cost management, support junior colleagues, and influence project outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include
Leading cost planning, forecasting, and reporting
Managing contracts and commercial risk
Supporting and mentoring Graduate and Assistant QS team members
Working closely with project managers and clients to ensure value delivery
Senior Quantity SurveyorAs a Senior Quantity Surveyor you are responsible, in conjunction with the Operations personnel.
Your Responsibilities will include
The financial management and performance of all allocated complex and significant (greater than £1m value) contracts.
Change management
Formal contractual notifications
Negotiation of acceptable/favourable Contract terms
Claim management/mitigation
Responsibility to ensure that revenue is promptly applied for and collected in line with the terms of the contract
Expected to operate with a degree of autonomy and maturity.
To assist in the preparation of quotations and timely application of price increases.
Career progression for Senior Quantity Surveyor to Managing Quantity SurveyorAs a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you\’ll lead commercial strategy across multiple projects or regions. You\’ll be responsible for team development, financial performance, and ensuring commercial excellence at every stage of delivery.
