We are looking for a dynamic and engaged individual to join our Operations Team in the North of England as a Higher Apprentice in Contracting Site Management.

Salary: £25,084

About the Role: Heidelberg Materials is offering an exciting opportunity for a Higher Apprentice to join our Contracting team as a Site Supervisor in training. This role is designed to support your development into a fully capable Contracting Site Supervisor, working alongside experienced professionals and contributing to the success of our projects. You’ll gain hands-on experience while completing a structured apprenticeship programme, developing the skills, knowledge, and behaviours needed to thrive in a fast-paced operational environment.

You will be training to be a Construction Site Supervisor, specialising in Road Surfacing, learning to manage the overall operation on a specific operational site. You will learn to be responsible for H&S, environmental impact, quality, costs and work program. No day is ever the same as you problem solve to meet the individual challenges of each day and site.

Real Work, Real Experience: From day one, you’ll be employed and working on live construction sites, gaining practical experience in site supervision and contract delivery. You’ll work closely with Site Managers, Contract Managers, and the Regional Operational Manager to support the safe, efficient, and compliant running of our operations.

Structured Learning: Alongside your role, you’ll study part-time with a recognised training provider. Your learning will be directly linked to your day-to-day responsibilities, helping you apply theory in practice and build a strong foundation for your future career.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Health & Safety: Support risk assessments, COSHH, and safe working practices. Promote high standards of safety behaviour.
  • Environmental: Assist with environmental procedures and resource-saving initiatives.
  • Quality & Compliance: Work with technical teams to ensure quality standards and compliance with legislation.
  • Operations: Contribute to production efficiency and support site performance.
  • Training & Development: Attend structured training sessions, complete apprenticeship documentation, and undertake a site-relevant project.
  • Professional Skills: Develop communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership capabilities.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Education: 80+ UCAS points and 5 GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above), including Maths, English & Science.
  • Driving Licence: Full UK licence (or working towards it).
  • Skills: Self-starter, team player, excellent communicator, flexible and proactive.
