Hi, I’m Steve Hardingson, Head of the “Video and Cloud” Value Stream at Hawk-Eye Innovations. Are you interested in working with the latest technologies in a fast-paced environment, with exciting career opportunities in a growing business? At Hawk-Eye, we build technology that powers some of the most exciting and critical moments in sport, from instant replays and broadcast augmentation to officiating systems trusted by leagues, federations, broadcasters, and millions of fans worldwide.
Our Value Stream builds the backbone of Hawk-Eye, creating the software architecture, deployment systems, and operational tools that power our world-leading sports technology platforms. As part of the Cloud Video Framework team, you will develop backend solutions that enable high-performance video experiences, working with core audio/video technologies, media processing, codecs, streaming, and low-latency systems.
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong C++ skills, a curious mindset, and a passion for solving real-world problems in high-pressure environments. Whether you’re optimising multithreaded code for live encoding, interfacing with video hardware, or building scalable tooling systems, you’ll be making a direct impact on how fans, players, officials, and broadcasters experience sport.
What You'll Be Doing
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and implement components for our systems and tooling platforms.
- Developing and optimizing cloud video frameworks, including audio/video processing, streaming technologies, low-latency systems, and scalable cloud-based media solutions.
- Taking part in field testing and supporting deployments at live sporting events.
- Partnering with product teams and customers to refine and deliver the best solutions.
- Championing high code quality and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
- Leading technical discussions and contributing to architectural and design decisions.
- Mentoring and supporting junior and mid-level engineers.
What We're Looking For
- Proficiency in modern C++ (ideally up to C++20).
- Experience writing multithreaded, performance-optimised code.
- Familiarity with tools like Git, Visual Studio, and debugging workflows.
- Experience with networking (TCP/IP stack, streaming protocols) is required. Exposure to cloud technologies or video/audio encoding workflows is a plus.
- A proactive mindset and eagerness to learn from a world-class engineering team.
Bonus Points For
- Knowledge of cloud architecture, preferably AWS.
- Experience with FFmpeg, audio/video processing, or multimedia applications.
- Working on a range of challenges, from hardware interfacing and network protocols to audio/video processing and UI development.
- Passion for sport or experience working in high-performance environments.
Reward, Benefits and Wellness
In addition to being a part of a great team, working in a fun and creative environment and learning from the best technical minds in the sports industry, we offer:
- 25 days annual leave in addition to 8 public holidays.
- Enhanced pension scheme (with 5% matching).
- Hybrid Working - 2 Days in the office/3 days from home.
- Long Service Rewards.
- Complimentary Unmind app.
- Access to sporting events and tickets.
- Onsite Gym (Basingstoke).
- Sony Group Company Discounts.
