We're looking for a Fire Safety Team Leader to support the delivery of a high-quality fire safety compliance service across our housing portfolio. In this role you will lead a team of technicians and engineers, ensuring statutory fire safety requirements are met, managing risk assessment programmes, and overseeing inspections, contractors, and improvement projects. This is a key role where you'll drive performance, maintain compliance, and contribute to creating safe homes and communities.
Requirements:
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance is essential.
Specifically, in the role you will:
- Team Management: Manage a team of four Fire Safety Technicians and four Fire Safety Electrical Engineers, ensuring effective management with outputs and performance targets met.
- Assist the Fire Safety Manager to ensure Hedyn complies with its statutory duties as a landlord regarding fire safety.
- Manage an annual budget of circa £600k and develop future budget requirements for the site-based fire safety team member activities.
- Deputise and cover the Fire Safety Manager during periods of absence.
Fire Risk Assessment & Actions:
- Control the Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) programme, facilitate access to premises and ensure they are conducted within defined timescales.
- Validate fire safety actions and FRA significant findings, assign remedial actions to internal colleagues or external contractors, manage the process, and ensure actions are completed within set timescales.
- Manage escalations of Fire Safety actions when all options have been exhausted to escalate to the Fire Safety Manager.
- Ensure that where deviations are made to risk assessments 'significant findings' that a Fire Engineer is engaged for technical advice note and/or supporting rationale.
Inspections & Projects:
- Develop a Fire Door (FD) database that captures the FD risk-based inspection programme.
- Manage and strategically oversee the delivery of safety inspection programmes, producing clear and accurate reporting.
- Assist in the fire strategy (FS) development of the programme, ensuring FS are developed for each of Hedyn's premises.
- Research and develop specifications for fire safety projects, providing assurance to other teams that their specifications are suitable and compliant with relevant legislation.
Contractor Management:
- Develop consultant and/or contractor briefing documents and specifications to initiate Procurement activities.
- Manage projects, utilising project management skills to deliver one-off projects and cyclical fire safety maintenance activities.
- Establish and chair contractor meetings, recording minutes with detailed actions allocated.
General:
- Strategically contribute to the development of policies, processes, and operational procedures pertaining to fire safety compliance activities.
- Manage the compliance database to ensure it is updated, engaging with relevant stakeholders and providing executive level performance information and reports.
- Contribute to developing team relationships and work collaboratively both internally and externally.
- Work at all times in a safe and appropriate manner to meet the duties and responsibilities within the Health and Safety policies and procedures of the association.
- Additional, reasonable duties as required.
