You're a strong PHP/Laravel engineer who uses agentic tooling seriously in your day to day work. Not as a shortcut, but as a way to move faster and deliver better. You don't need someone to define every problem for you, but you're not looking to own the roadmap either. You want to do great engineering work on something that matters. If that's you, keep reading.

You’ll be embedded into the product team of one of the UK's leading procurement platforms as your first project here. The platform connects organisations managing construction projects with the suppliers who deliver them. It's high‑traffic and there's serious engineering work to be done at every layer of the stack. The platform runs on PHP/Laravel and that's where you’ll live. This isn't maintenance work. There's real feature delivery, real scale, and active engineering on a system thousands of people rely on.

To do this well, you’ll need to be someone who:

  • Has strong experience at Senior Full Stack level in commercial, production PHP/Laravel environments
  • Has used agentic engineering tools to ship real features into production systems, not just personal projects
  • Knows AWS and has built scalable, cloud‑native APIs before
  • Has enough front end range to work with React.js or Laravel Nova when needed

Here’s what you get in return. You’ll be working on a real platform with real scale, alongside engineers who take the craft seriously. The work is varied and you’ll have the seniority to contribute to how things are done, not just what gets shipped. Agentic engineering is genuinely central to how this project works, not a buzzword on a job advert. You’ll be using these tools in production every day, which means the experience you build here is current, practical and transferable. Working here means exposure to multiple clients and contexts over time. If you want to keep growing as an engineer rather than going deep on one product forever, that variety matters.

Beyond the work itself, here’s what benefits come with the role:

  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • 5 Impact Days for learning, innovation or volunteering
  • Flexible working environment
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Annual wellbeing budget plus 2 wellbeing days
  • Mental health support
  • Company Mac

Location: You can work from home, in the office or a mix of both. We just ask that you’re based within 30 miles of one of our offices: Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, London.

How to prepare for a job interview at hedgehog lab

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If hedgehog lab uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
