Join the HEB Construction Team in Darfield/Selwyn! HEB Construction, a leading New Zealand civil construction contractor, is looking for a skilled Field Service Mechanic to join our Operations Support team at the Darfield workshop. This hands-on position is based in Darfield, but may require travel and occasional stays away from home, as we operate throughout New Zealand.
About the Role
As a Field Service Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in our Plant Division, providing mechanical support across various areas of the HEB Construction business.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Plant Department in the maintenance, repair, and improvement of core business plant items, including piling, transport, and construction equipment.
- Provide technical advice and support to operations personnel and supervise staff under your control.
- Lead training and mentoring programs for operatives, tradesmen, and apprentices involved in mechanical activities.
- Ensure timely and cost-effective maintenance and repair of plant, equipment, and tools.
- Conduct periodic plant audits, reporting on safety issues, condition, and general upkeep.
- Uphold high standards of workmanship and ensure hazard identification on job sites, projects, and within the team.
What We’re Looking For
- Advanced mechanical and/or engineering knowledge, with practical experience in construction equipment.
- Experience or knowledge of the crane/construction industry (preferred).
- Current Class 1 driver’s license.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to relate well to staff at all levels within construction and mechanical fields.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and analytical skills.
