Teacher — M1 to M6 (£32,916 - £45,352), 32.5 hours per week, full time, temporary (12 month maternity cover). Start Date: September 2026. Application Deadline: 30 June 2026 11:59pm. Interview Date: w/c 6 July 2026.

Role and Responsibilities

  • As a SEND Teacher at Heaton School, provide tailored education and support to students with special educational needs.
  • Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans; foster inclusive learning environments.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support the well-being and academic progress of each student.
  • Develop and implement individualised education programs (IEPs) in collaboration with parents, specialists, and other professionals.
  • Deliver differentiated instruction using a range of teaching methods and resources to promote active learning for all students.
  • Act as subject lead for the assigned subject area, working with pathway curriculum leads.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to the school's SEND improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment, promoting social-emotional development.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and stakeholders; attend meetings and participate in collaborative decision-making.
  • Contribute to the school’s wider SEND provision and maintain accurate student records in compliance with regulations.

About You

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience teaching SEND; newly qualified teachers considered subject to relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of SEND legislation and best practice, including the SEND Code of Practice; experience with various SEND frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of school curriculum and assessment processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Passion for inclusive education and commitment to helping students with SEND reach their potential.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet diverse student needs; ability to work effectively as part of a team.
