Overview
We’re looking for a dynamic Training & Competency Manager to help deliver Heathrow’s future engineering capability. This role is central to managing the development of our apprentices and graduates, maintaining robust competency frameworks, and ensuring our workforce is skilled, safe, and ready for tomorrow.
You’ll lead on training needs analysis, competency assessments, and programme delivery, working closely with internal trainers, assessors, and external providers. Your work will directly support pay progression, compliance, and continuous improvement across Engineering & Baggage.

Your role will involve
- Line managing apprentices and graduates, providing coaching and pastoral support.
- Implementing and maintaining competency frameworks for engineering roles and contractors.
- Conducting training needs analysis and developing competency assessment plans.
- Supporting internal trainer courses and standardising documentation.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to align training with strategic goals.
- Promoting STEM and outreach initiatives to support diversity and inclusion.
Qualifications
- Essential
- Experience in a training and competency role within a technical environment.
- Strong understanding of apprenticeship and graduate frameworks.
- Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and organisational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital learning tools.
- Desirable qualifications
- Level 3+ in Engineering, L&D or related field.
- Level 4 IQA, Train the Trainer (AET), Assessor (ACWE), and Safeguarding qualifications.

Working location
Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow. Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You’ll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.
