This role plays a key part in helping Heathrow achieve its strategic goals by supporting the delivery of the Internal Audit plan and driving continuous improvement in the quality and impact of assurance across the organisation. You will provide independent, objective assurance and valued advisory support that strengthens Heathrow’s governance, risk management, and control environment.
Your role will involve:
- Deliver high‑quality, risk‑based audits from planning through to reporting, aligned to Internal Audit standards and methodologies.
- Assess risks and evaluate the design and effectiveness of key controls, providing clear, evidence‑based insights.
- Produce concise, impactful audit reports with practical, value‑adding recommendations.
- Communicate findings confidently to stakeholders up to Senior Manager level, building credibility and influence.
- Monitor and validate the closure of audit actions, ensuring risks are effectively mitigated, and report progress to senior leadership and Board.
- Support the development of the annual risk‑based audit plan through research, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
- Provide advisory insight on governance, risk management, and control frameworks, identifying root causes and driving sustainable improvements.
- Build strong relationships across the business, collaborating with stakeholders while coaching junior team members and contributing to continuous improvement of audit practices.
These skills are essential:
- Demonstrable experience of delivering internal audit within complex operational and commercial environments, supported by a strong technical understanding.
- High levels of integrity, sound judgement, and the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at a senior level.
- Strong analytical thinking, with the ability to see the bigger picture and communicate clearly and effectively.
- Self‑starter with demonstrable Internal Audit experience, capable of operating independently within a small, agile team.
- IT literate, with proficiency in MS Office applications.
Ideally, you’ll also have:
- Educated to Degree level.
- Understanding of the aviation industry, airport operations, and the UK regulatory environment.
- Knowledge of construction and infrastructure development environments.
- Demonstrable knowledge of data analytics capabilities and tools.
- Experience of IT audit, including IT general controls, IT security, and user access management.
