The Route Development Lead will lead on setting and implementing the Route Development Strategy. This strategy will be aimed at increasing catchment and delivering a strategic bus and coach network to increase colleagues and passengers coming to and from Heathrow by Public Transport. This role will work closely with relevant other functions including operations and procurement to facilitate the delivery of the company’s vision, objectives and plans, work with external stakeholders such as transport operators and other important industry stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for increasing catchment for Heathrow from local, regional and nationwide locations through enhancing public transport connections.
  • Develop bus and coach network strategy which increases Heathrow’s catchment and also the proportion of people travelling by bus and coach.
  • Sets requirement for demand responsive travel and other innovations in bus and coach industry.
  • Set vision, objectives and plans for developing Heathrow’s Sustainable Travel Zone.
  • Work with operators, other departments in Heathrow and suppliers and third parties to deliver Route Development Strategy.
  • Managing multi-million pound budget for investment in the bus and coach network (Sustainable Travel Zone). Cost and resource forecasting; revenue projection and subsidy / opex reductions.
  • Represent the Surface Access Strategy team at a range of internal and external forums, and to act as a key contact for wider sustainable transport initiatives at Heathrow.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of existing bus and coach networks, operating practices and industry.
  • Proven commercial negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, work collaboratively and manage through others with strong project management skills and a record of achieving deliverables.
  • Ability to manage third party suppliers and consultants that support delivery activities and to derive value for money with any commission.
  • Ability to synthesise large and complex concepts into the fundamentals and demonstrable ability to produce evidence based, accurate and incisive decision making.
  • Proven ability to engage at all levels, internally and externally and evidence of influencing at a senior level.
  • Experience in transport with prior experience of a regulated business environment (desirable).
