Our team touches all aspects of airport life – from water to energy, rail to roads, baggage systems to runways. The scope and variety of what we do is vast, spanning mechanical, electrical, water, civil, rail and environmental disciplines. Together we are responsible for the performance of 500,000 assets worth £14bn. Through our apprenticeship, you’ll be shaping a career and gaining valuable on-the-job experience to develop into a qualified, multi-skilled electromechanical technician. The programme offers the necessary accredited training, guidance and support to develop the skills you’ll need to establish yourself in your engineering career. All training, books, workwear, personal protective equipment and tools are provided.
At Heathrow we’ve been offering Engineering Apprenticeships for over 49 years. Over 50% of our current Engineering workforce have completed our apprenticeship, with over 95% of graduating apprentices being offered a permanent position at Heathrow. The starting salary for this role is £25,449.94, with incremental increases each year.
During your four-year apprenticeship, you’ll be part of multiple high-performing teams responsible for maintaining the critical engineering infrastructure at Heathrow. You’ll develop a diverse skillset as you learn from experienced colleagues and build your technical expertise whilst keeping the programme dynamic and personal to your interests and skills. This programme will result in you being trained to a high level of competence with an externally accredited apprenticeship programme containing BTEC and NVQ Level 3 qualifications, and further Level 4 HNC opportunities.
Applications should be submitted as soon as possible. This role will close earlier than the advertised date if we reach capacity. Four-year rotational programme, starting early September 2026. The minimum age requirement is 16, and candidates must be willing to work in a shift-based role upon turning 18. There is no upper age limit, and we encourage individuals of all ages to apply. The role will consist of working at Heathrow Airport and a technical learning provider within local proximity to the Airport.
The application process consists of screening questions, a series of assessments, and an in‑person assessment centre. You will progress to the next stage only if you are successful at each step.

We’re looking for committed, eager and driven individuals who are ready to learn through a structured development programme. You should be motivated to build a long‑term engineering career with us at Heathrow Airport. You will have the motivation to work in an ever-changing environment that will need you to explore problems by creating different possible solutions to keep the airport safe.
To be eligible for our apprenticeship programme, you’ll need GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above in Maths, English, and Science. We’ll also consider applicants who have completed higher or further education qualifications, or an engineering foundation level that exceeds these GCSE requirements. You must be aged 16 or over and be willing to work in a shift-based role once you turn 18.
Beyond your academic achievements, we’ll be looking for clear evidence of teamwork, problem‑solving and a drive to achieve your best. These qualities should be demonstrated through your studies and wider experiences.
