We make sure the airport is always running smoothly and keep passengers and planes moving.

Our team touches all aspects of airport life – from water to energy, rail to roads, baggage systems to runways. The scope and variety of what we do is vast, spanning mechanical, electrical, water, civil, rail and environmental disciplines. Together we are responsible for the performance of 500,000 assets worth £14bn. You’ll work on a wide range of development, construction and maintenance projects and will have many ways to develop your skills, career and reputation. Through our apprenticeship, you’ll shape a career and gain valuable on‑the‑job experience to develop into a qualified, multi‑skilled electromechanical technician. The programme offers accredited training, guidance and support to develop the skills you need to establish yourself in your engineering career. All training, books, workwear, personal protective equipment and tools are provided. At Heathrow we’ve been offering Engineering Apprenticeships for over 49 years. Over 50% of our current Engineering workforce have completed our apprenticeship, with over 95% of graduating apprentices being offered a permanent position at Heathrow.

The starting salary for this role is £25,449.94, with incremental increases each year.

Your role will involve:

  • Four‑year rotational programme, starting early September 2026.
  • The minimum age requirement is 16, and candidates must be willing to work in a shift‑based role upon turning 18.
  • The role will consist of working at Heathrow Airport and a technical learning provider within local proximity to the Airport.
  • The application process consists of screening questions, a series of assessments, and an in‑person assessment centre. You will progress to the next stage only if you are successful at each step.

Key dates:

  • Application window: now open until Sunday 1st March 2026 (may close after 2 weeks due to demand).
  • Screening and tests: throughout March.
  • Assessment Centre: 7‑10th April 2026 (these dates are fixed).
  • Start date: Early September 2026.

  • Committed, eager and driven individuals who are ready to learn through a structured development programme.
  • Motivation to work in an ever‑changing environment that will need you to explore problems by creating different possible solutions to keep the airport safe.
  • Eligibility: GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above in Maths, English, and Science (or higher qualifications).
  • Aged 16 or over and willing to work in a shift‑based role once you turn 18.
  • Clear evidence of teamwork, problem‑solving and a drive to achieve your best, demonstrated through studies and wider experiences.
