Our client, a well-established and growing freight forwarding and logistics business, is seeking an experienced Accounts Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of their finance department. This is a fantastic opportunity for a hands-on finance professional with strong leadership skills and proven experience within the cargo, freight forwarding, or logistics sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of up to 10 staff while ensuring the smooth operation of all accounting and finance functions across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the smooth running of the Accounts Department and manage a team of up to 10 staff
- Manage all aspects of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- Oversee Sales Ledger, Billing, and Credit Control functions
- Complete and review Bank and Duty VAT reconciliations
- Prepare and submit VAT Returns
- Conduct and oversee credit checks and risk assessments for new UK and overseas clients
- Liaise with senior management and external accountants as required
- Supervise the processing of sales and purchase invoices
- Resolve account-related queries and discrepancies
- Produce and analyse P&L reports, Aged Debtor reports, budgets, and payroll information
- Provide regular financial reporting and updates to the senior management team
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience across all aspects of accounts and finance management
- Previous managerial or team leadership experience
- Strong background within the freight forwarding, cargo, logistics, or shipping industry
- AAT qualification or equivalent accounting training
- Advanced knowledge of Sage 50 is essential
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Experience using ASM and/or BoxTop systems would be highly advantageous
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
