The Opportunity: We are working on behalf of a well-established specialist logistics provider supporting the global scientific and life sciences community. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior Import Coordinator to join their Heathrow-based Air Import operation. This is a hands-on senior role with responsibility for managing UK air imports, ensuring compliant customs clearance, and supporting service excellence across customers, overseas offices, and internal teams. The position also includes mentoring and supporting colleagues within the import function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and perform core air import activities within the Heathrow operation
- Ensure timely and compliant customs clearance, submitting entries directly or via approved brokers
- Verify all import permits and supporting documentation are in place prior to customs submission
- Liaise with customers, overseas offices, and customs brokers to ensure accurate declarations in line with HMRC regulations
- Proactively identify potential risks or delays and implement preventative solutions
- Provide customers with regular shipment updates and complete post-shipment activities, including temperature data retrieval and return logistics
- Act as a subject matter expert for standing instructions, quality, and compliance
- Train, mentor, and support team members within the Air Import Department
Skills & Experience Required:
- Proven experience within an air import or air freight operations role
- Experience completing customs entries using Sequoia or a similar customs system
- Strong, up-to-date knowledge of UK customs procedures, CPCs, and HTS codes
- Excellent customer service and stakeholder management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Highly organised, with the ability to plan and prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment
- A proactive team player, comfortable working independently when required
