Land Surveyor / Service Locator – Heathrow Airport Location: Heathrow Airport, London Employment Type: Full-time Sector: Infrastructure / Utilities / Construction Are you an experienced Utility Surveyor looking for your next challenge in a dynamic and high-security environment? Our client – a leading infrastructure specialist working on major projects at Heathrow Airport – is seeking a skilled Service Locator to join their growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in supporting vital construction and maintenance works by accurately identifying and mapping underground utilities across one of the UK’s most complex sites. The Role As a Service Locator , you’ll be responsible for ensuring safe excavation practices through precise utility detection, verification, and documentation. Working closely with engineers and project managers, you’ll help safeguard essential services and maintain compliance with industry standards. Key Responsibilities: Carry out physical surveys of underground utilities using electromagnetic location and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). Operate CAT & Genny (RD8000 or equivalent) and other geophysical tools to trace and mark services accurately. Spray-mark and label underground services using correct colour codes, noting service type and depth. Manage and authorise the Permit to Dig process, ensuring compliance before work commences. Review and validate method statements and risk assessments. Maintain accurate, up-to-date service markings and records throughout the project lifecycle. Investigate and document uncharted utilities, updating service drawings accordingly. Liaise with project teams to communicate exclusion zones and service locations. Ensure CAD drawings and reports meet PAS128 standards and are attached to all relevant permits. Capture photographic evidence and maintain thorough survey documentation. About You Essential Qualifications & Experience: QCF Level 5 Diploma in Utility Mapping and Surveying (mandatory). Valid CSCS card. 2–3 years’ experience in utility surveying, ideally within airport or other high-security environments. Skilled in using GPR, electromagnetic locators, and associated software. Strong working knowledge of PAS128 and TSA standards. Excellent understanding of H&S and excavation safety procedures. Full UK driving licence and ability to obtain Heathrow security clearance. Desirable: Experience on large-scale infrastructure projects (e.g., HS2, rail, aviation). Working knowledge of AutoCAD. Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, with the ability to deliver site briefings and enforce safety protocols. Why Apply?
