The predicted salary is between 9.9 - 12.1 Β£ per hour.

WHSmith are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Sales Assistant to join their team. The Sales Assistant will provide exceptional customer service, proactively dealing with all customers, making the most of every sales opportunity and acting as an ambassador delivering the WHSmith brand to all our customers. The role requires shift work and flexibility and there are opportunities for career development with training. This would be on a Fixed term contract basis from the end of September 2026 until the end of January 2027, with possibility of extension thereafter.

As a Sales Assistant your key responsibilities include:

  • To always deliver a friendly service, smiling, greeting and making eye contact with every customer you encounter.
  • Meeting high standards of display and visual merchandising to ensure the store is well presented.
  • Targeted on having appropriate Till Point Conversations with every customer to add on sales and increase the average transaction value.
  • Working as an active member of the team, supporting colleagues in all tasks.
  • Demonstrating good product knowledge to customers on key promotions and offers, maximising selling opportunities.
  • Approaching customers that may require assistance if you are on the shop floor.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a desire to learn and make customers feel happy by giving great customer service, you will also be:

  • A great listener, good to talk to and naturally helpful.
  • Confident towards maximising sales opportunities.
  • Delivers personal targets to agreed expectation.
  • Taking responsibility for personal performance within wider team.
  • Respectful of others.
  • Need an ability to host, either at front of store, or till areas, filling areas such as chillers.
  • Able to move cages of drinks and heavy lifting.
  • Able to work five days over seven, 05:00 - 14:00 or 14:00 - 22:00, 5 days out of 7.
  • Able to handle alcohol or tobacco due to selling in our main airside stores.
