As a Detention Custody Officer (DCO) within the Mitie Care & Custody team, you will have the opportunity to uphold high standards of security and safety while promoting the well-being and dignity of residents at our Immigration Removal Centre (IRC).

Prior experience in handling individuals who may be agitated, confused, or upset would be beneficial in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the safety, security and welfare of residents within the Immigration Removal Centre (IRC).
- Build professional and respectful relationships with residents from diverse backgrounds.
- Monitor resident wellbeing and respond appropriately to welfare, behavioural and security-related incidents.
- Conduct regular patrols, security checks and searches in line with operational procedures.
- Support residents with day-to-day enquiries while treating everyone with dignity and respect.
- Manage challenging situations calmly and professionally, including dealing with individuals who may be distressed, agitated or upset.
- Complete accurate reports, records and incident documentation.
- Escort residents safely around the centre and to external appointments when required.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Adhere to all policies, procedures, legislation and professional standards.
- Remain flexible to work a rotating shift pattern, including days, nights, weekends and public holidays.
- Participate in mandatory training, including Use of Force and ongoing professional development programmes.
