The Heathrow Shared Apprenticeship Scheme is one of the UK’s most exciting apprenticeship programmes. The scheme provides career changing opportunities for residents close to the airport. Electricians may work on the installation, initial verification and testing, commissioning, and maintenance of low voltage (up to and including 1000 V or AC 1500 V DC) electrical and electronic equipment. Electricians can also work on the maintenance of electrical and electronic installations including automated production systems. They contribute to the design, development, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of products, equipment, processes, of electric systems or services.
Duties typically include:
- Comply with safety and environmental regulations, building codes, and industry standards, including 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671).
- Perform electrical installation, verification, maintenance, and testing on various voltages (AC/DC, single/three-phase).
- Conduct maintenance, inspections, and condition reporting for existing electrical systems as per manufacturer instructions and installation requirements.
- Install wired and wireless solutions, ensuring compliance with 18th Edition BS 7671 and relevant standards while assessing electrical loads.
- Install mains-powered life safety systems in industrial, commercial, and residential settings.
- Install electrical connections for heating and cooling systems in different installations.
- Communicate and collaborate with project teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders while ensuring data security.
Typical Working Week: 40 hours p/w with start time typically between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of paid 8 hours at college.

Qualifications required/desirable:
Minimum Requirements: English and Maths at GCSE Grade 4 or above, or Functional Skills at Level 2 or above. You must have also completed a Level 2 Electrical Installation Diploma.
Desired Requirements: The passion and commitment to become a fully qualified Electrician. It will be advantageous if you already have previous related work experience and a CSCS/ECS Card.
Key Training/College Information: K10 will enrol you to the Level 3 Installation/Maintenance Electrician course and fund your qualifications through an accredited training provider. The apprenticeship duration is 48 months dependant on your previous qualifications.
Eligibility: To start this apprenticeship, you’ll need to be:
- Living in England for the last 3 years and have right to work status.
- Not enrolled on any other courses.
- 18+ due to site H&S rules.
