The Technical Learning Designer plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of operational excellence at Heathrow by leading the design and development of innovative, high-impact technical training solutions. This role is responsible for the strategic and day-to-day technical learning design, ensuring training approaches meet the evolving needs of Heathrow’s operational areas. With a strong focus on innovation, the role fosters a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement, challenging conventional approaches and exploring new methods of learning design. Through deep expertise, the role ensures that technical training is not only compliant and operationally relevant, but also engaging, accessible, and future focused. We have two roles which will be responsible for driving design excellence across one or more Technical Training functions – one focussed on Airside and the other Fire, Health & Safety and Engineering. For the Airside role a Full UK driving licence is required.
Responsibilities
- Designing and developing technical training materials, ensuring they are engaging, effective, and tailored to operational contexts.
- Championing innovative approaches to learning design, including digital, blended, and experiential methods.
- Collaborating with operational leaders, subject matter experts, and compliance teams to identify training needs and translate them into effective learning solutions.
- Maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure training remains relevant and impactful.
- Implementing robust quality assurance processes to ensure consistency and effectiveness of training materials.
- Monitoring and evaluating training outcomes, using data and feedback to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of instructional design principles and adult learning theory.
- Experience designing training for technical roles, including safety-critical and compliance-based content.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Familiarity with digital learning tools, platforms, and authoring software.
- Ability to work independently and work alongside technical experts.
Ideally, you’ll also have: Certification in instructional design and digital learning.
