Electrical Engineering is at the heart of Heathrow\'s infrastructure where we are enabling safe, reliable, and energy-efficient operations across one of the world\'s busiest airports. From high-voltage systems and terminal power distribution to airfield lighting and energy resilience, our electrical engineers keep Heathrow running 24/7. Our engineering teams work across the airport on a huge range of state-of-the-art development, construction and maintenance projects. The complexity of the airport cannot be understated; we have every piece of the engineering puzzle concentrated in one place. Together, our team is responsible for £14bn worth of assets, including 4 million square metres of airfield pavements, 125km of roads, 44 tunnels, 5 terminal buildings, 200 other buildings, and 40 Baggage reclaim belts, not to mention the largest private water distribution system in Europe. It\'s an exciting place to be, with unlimited opportunities to make a difference. Our three-year professional development programme prepares you for engineering and management roles within engineering and asset management. The scheme is also intended to provide you with sufficient experience to meet the initial professional development requirements of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, which will allow you to apply for membership of the Institution at either Incorporated or Chartered level in due course. You will gain a breadth of exposure to our work, which could include:
- Airside and landside engineering
- Water management
- Power generation
- Terminal engineering
- Project Management
- External secondment to designers / contractors
- Rail
- Baggage
- Asset Management
What we expect
To make it onto this programme, you need a real passion for engineering as well as a degree accredited by the Institution of Engineering Technology (IET), suitable for Chartered Engineer progression by August 2026.
