As a Fire Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and enhancing a variety of fire & life safety assets, policies and processes across Heathrow Airport. Joining our Engineering team means being at the heart of a complex operation whose size, scale and reputation for innovation are unique. Our team touches all aspects of airport life – from water to energy, rail to roads, baggage systems to runways. The scope and variety of what we do is vast, spanning mechanical, electrical, water, civil, rail and environmental disciplines. Together we are responsible for the performance of 500,000 assets worth £14bn.

Requirements:

  • Hold a minimum of an HNC (or equivalent) in Fire Engineering or a related engineering discipline. A higher qualification, such as a BSc, BEng, MSc, or MEng in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Physics, or a related field, is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in maintenance and management practices.
  • Understanding of and ability to interpret and apply relevant industry standards and statutory requirements.
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary engineering and operational environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a systematic approach to fault diagnosis and risk assessment.
  • Demonstrable safety leadership.
  • Ideally, you'll also be or working towards Eng Tech or IEng or CEng registration (working towards) with the Engineering Council.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Fire Detection Systems, Fire Suppression Systems, smoke ventilation systems, life safety systems, building fabric and structure, fire engineering, personal safety equipment, perimetry, and change control systems.
  • Benchmark proposals against Heathrow and British Standards.
  • Provide fire-related technical support to operational and project teams, and specialist engineering support to development and maintenance teams.
  • Develop and implement robust asset management plans and strategies, ensuring effective solutions, and evaluate asset performance against life cycles, performance metrics, and risk assessments.
  • Drive continuous improvement plans to enhance asset performance and availability, and support project teams with technical queries related to rail control systems & signalling assets in the sub-surface environment.
  • Engage in a learning environment with opportunities to influence safety culture and practices, and provide early-stage technical design input.
