The Asset Risk and Opportunity Manager leads continuous improvement in Engineering and Baggage Risk Management, ensuring the effective integration of risk and opportunity insights into asset strategies, standards, and plans, aligned with Heathrow's broader objectives. This role leverages deep expertise in asset and risk management to identify, manage, and communicate technical risks and opportunities across all systems, ensuring stakeholders at all levels are well-informed and risk insights are embedded in decision-making processes.

Working Location: Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow. Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You’ll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.

Joining our Engineering team means being at the heart of a complex operation whose size, scale and reputation for innovation are unique. We make sure the airport is always running smoothly and keep passengers and planes moving. Our team touches all aspects of airport life – from water to energy, rail to roads, baggage systems to runways. The scope and variety of what we do is vast, spanning mechanical, electrical, water, civil, rail and environmental disciplines. Together we are responsible for the performance of 500,000 assets worth 14bn.
Degree-level education in engineering, asset management, risk management, or related experience. Extensive experience in asset risk and assurance within complex infrastructure environments. Strong analytical skills with experience in risk modelling and data visualization. Excellent stakeholder engagement and high level of communication skills. Proven ability to develop and implement risk frameworks, supporting tools, risk modelling, and analytics. Experience in coaching and training teams on risk awareness and control effectiveness.
Desirable: Professional certification in risk management (IRM, ISO 31000) and asset management (IAM). Strong understanding of technical risk controls related to asset risks. Experience working with senior management, regulatory bodies, and audit teams.
Manage and assess a wide range of engineering and baggage risks, collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand, mitigate, and communicate risks effectively across the business. Simplify technical risk information for clear communication to both executive and operational teams. Use risk data to inform asset management strategies and drive the development of maintenance and capital plans. Design and implement risk management tools, dashboards, and analytical models to support data-driven decision-making. Stay abreast of industry innovations to improve risk reporting and management for assets, ensuring alignment with certified management systems (ISO 55000, 50000, 14000, 45000, 27000).
Lead governance and risk reporting activities, ensuring outputs are technically accurate and trusted by stakeholders, regulators, and auditors. Provide expert advisory input into engineering’s risk and assurance framework and ensure alignment with enterprise risk strategy. Evaluate the effectiveness of current risk controls, identify funding gaps, and propose improvements. Conduct audits to assess the robustness of existing risk controls and recommend enhancements for more effective risk management. Ensure ongoing audit readiness by working closely with internal and external auditors. Lead the closure of audit actions and implement continuous improvements to enhance risk management processes and the asset management framework. Champion a proactive risk culture by coaching teams and promoting advanced risk management practices. Enhance risk capability across the organization, particularly within the Engineering and Baggage teams, through tailored training and mentoring. Manage the Risk and Opportunity Analyst, ensuring timely and accurate reporting that supports strategic decision-making and governance. Lead cross-functional initiatives and contribute risk expertise to ad-hoc projects and working groups.
