Salary / Fee: From £25,000 to £30,000 per annum. (Pro-rata £20,000-24,000)

Job Type: Part-time 32 hours (4 days) per week, including occasional weekends and regular evenings.

The main purpose of this post is to work with the Learning Manager to support the development and delivery of high-quality learning and events programmes for all ages at West House and the Heath Robinson Museum. The learning and events programme is highly successful, offering both formal and informal opportunities across all sectors, disciplines, and ability levels. Subjects include art, design, creative thinking, and gadgets. Candidates should have specialist experience or qualifications in art, along with practical knowledge of traditional art techniques, combined with a flexible and creative approach to working across various subjects.

A strong focus is placed on developing and delivering programmes for educational institutes, including museum-based workshops, single events, outreach activities, school visits, college student engagements, and collaborations with schools, colleges, or other organizations. Informal learning courses and workshops are also key components, scheduled during the day for adults and after hours for children and adults, including during school holidays.

Key Tasks

  • Develop and deliver high-quality learning opportunities at West House and the Heath Robinson Museum, especially for children, young adults (up to 25 years), families, and the wider community.
  • Create informal community events, either led by the museum or in partnership with other community groups.
  • Collaborate with the curatorial team to develop learning outcomes for exhibitions and curate relevant activities and materials for exhibitions and the collection.
  • Create learning content and programme interactive displays throughout the museum.
  • Identify funding opportunities relevant to learning initiatives.
  • Work with the marketing team to promote learning programmes.
  • Manage learning event ticketing and external workshop leader recruitment.
  • Welcome participants, provide information and feedback, ensuring high standards for all activities.
  • Evaluate programmes and make improvements to ensure relevance and quality.
  • Build relationships with external agencies, educational providers, volunteers, and other stakeholders to broaden access to learning resources.
  • Manage the school booking system and handle enquiries promptly.
  • Ensure safe working systems are in place and followed during activities involving facilitators and volunteers.
  • Oversee the budgets for schools and family learning, ensuring income and visitor targets are met.
  • Comply with the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act.
  • Manage the Activity Studio and learning spaces, coordinating maintenance with the Estates Manager.
  • Support the Learning and Museum Managers in maintaining the presentation and safety of the museum and learning environment.
  • Assist in managing the rental of event and museum rooms.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably required to support the museum's operations.
  • Become part of a supportive network of museum and heritage educators.
