To become a Lecturer in our Health & Social Care and Early Years department, we need someone who is ambitious, motivated and has a passion for teaching. The successful candidate will have the chance to acquire new skills and develop their abilities in a wide range of activities. Although this position is based at our Worcester campus, all applicants must be prepared to travel to our other campuses or surrounding areas as required.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
- Deliver high-quality teaching and learning across Early Years programmes.
- Plan, assess, and monitor learner progress, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Develop and maintain curriculum materials, including schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessment resources.
- Support learners to achieve their goals through effective guidance and individual learning planning.
- Embed and promote English, maths, and digital skills within the curriculum.
- Use technology to enhance teaching, learning, and assessment.
- Maintain accurate learner records, progress tracking, and administrative documentation.
- Contribute to quality improvement activities, curriculum meetings, and course management.
- Liaise with relevant departments to support learner achievement and programme delivery.
- Ensure safe working practices within the programme area.

POST TITLE: Lecturer in Early Years - Maternity Leave Cover
DIRECTORATE/DEPARTMENT: Health and Social Care and Early Years

RESPONSIBLE TO: Curriculum Manager
AIM AND PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The purpose of the role is to be responsible for flexible and proactive delivery of an agreed teaching programme in Early Years and other related areas. In addition to teaching, to undertake a range of administrative and developmental duties that contributes to improving standards and achievements and the learner experience.
KEY ROLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- To teach across a range of programmes in Early Years associated areas.
- To take an active part in the recruitment of learners, providing appropriate advice and guidance.
- To deliver high quality teaching and learning by: providing students with a planned learning and assessment experience, effectively managing and monitoring the learning process, providing regular assessment opportunities, providing timely and constructive feedback; and guiding and supporting learners to achieve their learning goals.
- To support, and where appropriate, contextualise and/or ‘signpost’ English and maths in the curriculum.
- To actively develop and use new technology in teaching, learning and assessment.
- To provide assignment and assessment material appropriate to each specific programme.
- To produce schemes of work, lesson plans, individual learning plans and assessment schedules etc. appropriate to the curriculum area.
- To evaluate and assess (formative and summative) the work of learners in relation to the curriculum criteria and provide timely constructive and helpful learner feedback.
- To attend curriculum meetings and to contribute to the continual quality improvement mechanisms.
- To keep accurate and effective systems of administration which support the student and College needs.
- To ensure safe working practices across the programme area.
- To commit to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- To participate in the College’s Performance Management Scheme and attend such training events as are necessary to enable him/her to carry out the duties of the job description.
- To continually improve teaching, learning and assessment through proactive CPD and sharing best practice.
- To undertake such other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.
- To take reasonable care for the health and safety of him/her and for others affected by his/her work.
- To actively support College Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity policies.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE – Academic staff:
The appointment is subject to the Conditions of Service for Academic Staff. The work pattern of a Lecturer is not necessarily linked to the traditional academic year. All successful applicants will undergo the following checks: Enhanced DBS, 2 x References, one of which must be your current or most recent employer, Qualification validation check.
SALARY:
The salary range for this post is up to £20,706. Starting salary will be dependent upon experience and qualifications. Once you have successfully passed your probationary period, your salary will increase within the salary band on an annual incremental basis, until you reach the top of the salary scale. Increments are in August.
TEACHING QUALIFICATION:
Applicants are required to hold an appropriate teaching qualification or be willing to undertake and gain the Certificate in Education and Training within 2 years of their appointment.
MATHS AND ENGLISH:
All staff are required to have a minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths. If you are not already in receipt of one or both qualifications, you will be expected to obtain it (them) during your employment at the College.
SAFEGUARDING:
The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
VALIDATION OF QUALIFICATIONS:
The College will undertake qualification validation by writing to the appropriate educational institute. Only those qualifications which are essential for the post will be followed up.
HOURS OF WORK:
The hours of work will be based on 18.5 hours per week. Actual hours of work to be agreed with the manager.
ANNUAL LEAVE:
The post carries 37 annual leave days with an additional eight public bank holidays plus a further five concessionary days as ‘leave to be taken at the principal’s discretion’. Annual leave will be pro rata if part time.
PENSION SCHEME:
The College operates an occupational pension scheme, namely the ‘Teachers Pensions’.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
All newly appointed teaching staff must serve a 9-month probationary period.
REFERENCES:
All candidates must have 2 satisfactory references.
LOCATION:
The successful applicant will be based Cross Campus and may be required to work at other locations from time to time.
