We are looking for
To become a Multi Skills Lecturer in our Construction department, we need someone experienced in bricklaying and construction techniques, passionate about teaching and mentoring students, and knowledgeable about the latest industry standards and safety regulations.
The successful candidate will have the chance to acquire new skills and develop their abilities in a wide range of activities. We have a variety of students from the surrounding area and are a welcoming and inclusive community that champions diversity and equality across our college. Our departments collaborate to establish and uphold the inclusive HoW culture. Although this position is centred on our Redditch campus, all applicants must be prepared to travel to our other campuses or surrounding areas as required.
What you\’ll be doing
To find a more detailed list of your day‑to‑day responsibilities, please refer to the key roles and accountabilities section. In summary, as someone who has recent experience in Bricklaying:
- Teach across a range of programmes in Bricklaying and associated areas.
- Develop further courses in Bricklaying and associated areas.
- Take an active part in the recruitment of learners providing appropriate advice and guidance.
- Assist students in the classroom with understanding the activities set by the tutor, and support with spelling, punctuation, and mathematics.

Job Description
Aim and Purpose of the Job
The purpose of the role is to strengthen the Construction workshop delivery team and College teaching team, working within the Head of faculty of Engineering and Construction Technologies. To provide effective and efficient learning opportunities for people undertaking Brickwork, and related studies. To instruct in a variety of related subjects to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Key Roles and Accountabilities
- Deliver and manage high quality relevant teaching and learning.
- Develop and manage efficient and effective non‑guided learning.
- Contribute to the development of new courses/qualifications.
- Contribute to the operation and maintenance of existing courses/qualifications.
- Develop and produce materials which will assist students in the learning process.
- Keep abreast of new developments relevant to the area of teaching commitment.
- Assist in the administration requirements of the post.
General Accountabilities
- Commit to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- Participate in the College’s Performance Management Scheme and attend such training events as are necessary to enable him/her to carry out the duties of the job description.
- Continuously improve teaching, learning and assessment through proactive CPD and sharing best practice.
- Actively participate in the College’s Quality System, including quality improvement strategies and initiatives.
- Undertake such other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.
- Takes reasonable care for the health and safety of him/her and for others affected by his/her work.
- Actively support College Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity policies.
- Operate/conduct all HR tasks and functions within the principles of GDPR.
Conditions of Service
The appointment is subject to the Conditions of Service for Academic Staff. The work pattern of a Lecturer is not necessarily linked to the traditional academic year.
Pay and Salary
The salary range for this post is from £25,599 to £39,725 per annum. Starting salary will be dependent upon experience and qualifications. Once you have successfully passed your probationary period, your salary will increase within the salary band on an annual incremental basis, until you reach the top of the salary scale. Increments are in August.
Teaching Qualification
Applicants are required to hold an appropriate teaching qualification or be willing to undertake and gain the Certificate in Education and Training within 2 years of their appointment. Successful applicants will be required to attend the course on site as the College delivers the course in‑house. The College reviews its CPD budget on an annual basis and cannot guarantee funding for the course fees.
Maths and English
All staff are required to have a minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths. If you are not already in receipt of one or both of these qualifications, you will be expected to obtain it (them) during your employment at the College.

Validation of Qualifications
The College will undertake qualification validation by writing to the appropriate educational institute. Only those qualifications which are essential for the post will be followed up.
Hours of Work
The hours of work will be based on 37 hours per week, of this 25 hours per week will be delivery. Actual hours of work to be agreed with the manager.
Annual Leave
The post carries 37 annual leave days with an additional eight public bank holidays plus a further five concessionary days as ‘leave to be taken at the Principal’s discretion’. Annual leave will be pro rata if part time. Only in exceptional circumstances, with the Director’s permission, will staff be able to take more than 3 consecutive weeks of leave in any leave year.
Pension Scheme
The College operates an occupational pension scheme, namely the ‘Teachers Pensions’.
Probationary Period
All newly appointed staff have to serve a 9‑month probationary period and must complete induction and mandatory training sessions.
First Aid & Fire Marshal
Staff with these responsibilities must undertake first aid and/or fire marshal duties across the College, when called upon to do so.

Location
The successful applicant will be based Cross Campus, predominantly our Redditch campus. May be required to work at other locations from time to time.
