Job Title: CORE 1-2-1 Learning Support Assistant (Temporary)

Salary: £11,320 to £11,700.61 per annum (pro rata)

Hours: 21 hours per week for 36 weeks per year

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

To become a 1-2-1 Learning Support Assistant in our CORE department, we need someone who is supportive, patient and motivated.

The successful candidate will work 1:2:1 with a learner in our CORE Department and provide high‑quality learning support to help learners engage and achieve their goals.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Provide one‑to‑one and/or group work interventions to support learners in achieving identified learning goals.
  • Support the delivery of specialist foundation programmes for learners with specialised needs (autistic spectrum conditions, mental health, emotional and behavioural difficulties, learning difficulties, etc.) and students accessing mainstream courses who need additional support.
  • Ensure learners with support needs are fully engaged with Learner Services and reinforce College attendance policies.
  • Assist learners in the classroom with understanding tutor‑led activities and support spelling, punctuation and mathematics.
  • Assist in pre‑entry activities such as recruitment, enrolment and assessment of support needs.
  • Assist in the delivery of entry screening and diagnostics and use results to inform Personal Learning Plans.
  • Liaise with lecturers, TAVs, PLCs and other staff to target and manage support within learning sessions.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate the impact of one‑to‑one and group work to continually improve the service.
  • Maintain accurate records of all activities and intervene promptly within agreed timescales.
  • Contribute to the negotiation and monitoring of individual learning objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, equality, diversity, health and safety and CPD requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths, or the commitment to obtain them during employment.
  • Current DBS and 2 references (at least one recent).
  • Ability to travel to other campuses as required.
  • Experience supporting young people in an educational setting is desirable.
  • Knowledge or experience with learners with special educational needs or disabilities.
