Overview
A Caretaker for the Facilities Department at Heart of Worcestershire College, based mainly at Worcester and Malvern campuses, supporting building management, maintenance and security.
Responsibilities
- Support the campus environment and operational duties, including unlocking/locking buildings, maintaining cleanliness and safety.
- Operate front‑line support for fire and intruder alarm systems.
- Undertake basic maintenance duties such as painting, minor repairs, litter removal and hazard management.
- Assist with general grounds maintenance (weeding, trimming shrubs, removing moss).
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers and manage incoming deliveries.
- Provide on‑call support for out of hours requirements (allowance paid).
- Maintain a security log, interact with police, support college managers on security issues and patrol campus car parks.
- Check identity passes and monitor student behaviour and smoking regulations.
- Support sustainability initiatives and report monthly utility readings.
- Comply with Health and Safety legislation and participate in fire protection testing.
- Participate in safeguarding, CPD, quality system and other general duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Relevant industrial experience and a qualification in first aid or willingness to obtain one.
- Basic mechanical skills for maintenance tasks.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid driving license for delivery duties (when required).
- Minimum level 2 qualification in English and Maths.
- Ability to travel between campuses as required.
