The Role…
As Evening News Editor you’ll be responsible for steering the evening news output of Digital Spy, one of the UK’s best and most trusted entertainment news websites, between the hours of 3pm and 11pm. You’ll source and write breaking news stories about TV, Movies and Soaps, as well as deciding angles and assigning stories to our team of out-of-hours freelancers. Answering to the News Editor, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining Digital Spy’s international reputation for accuracy and our comprehensive coverage of everything entertainment.
Main Duties…
•Sourcing stories from live TV coverage and the wider world of entertainment
•Coming up with angles on the news that are fresh, enticing and optimised for digital publishing
• Writing and publishing breaking news stories
•Assigning stories and managing workflow for the freelancer pool
• Assisting the News Editor in matters of team admin and analytics
What We Are Looking For…
•A keen, entertainment-obsessed writer/editor with at least a year’s experience as a writer in entertainment news, and ideally experience as a section editor or deputy news editor.
• You’ll have a thorough understanding of the demands of digital journalism, including the importance of SEO and metadata.
•You don’t have to be a Soaps expert, but a working knowledge of key characters and current storylines in at least one Soap would be an advantage.
• Given the working hours, we are open to hiring on a part-time, job-share, pro rata basis (for example, one person working two evenings per week, another person working three). Please flag on application if this applies to you.
• You will be motivated to always communicate accurately and concisely, and comfortable writing in Digital Spy’s authoritative but conversational tone.
