We’re the UK’s leading premium publisher, and the people behind iconic media brands such as Cosmopolitan, Esquire, ELLE, Harper’s Bazaar and Country Living. We’ve created a working environment that encourages everyone to pull together. We never stop looking for brave new ideas. We’ll always try to develop and improve, we trust each other to do our best, and we have fun as we build on our heritage to make history.

This is a remote role, working between the hours of 3pm and 11pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and alternate Thursdays. You will share the role with another Evening News Editor, who works Wednesdays, Fridays and alternate Thursdays.

As Evening News Editor you’ll be responsible for steering the evening news output of Digital Spy, one of the UK’s best and most trusted entertainment news websites. You’ll source and write breaking news stories about TV, Movies and Soaps, as well as deciding angles and assigning stories to our team of out-of-hours freelancers and the Deputy Evening News Editor. Answering to the Editor, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining Digital Spy’s international reputation for accuracy and our comprehensive coverage of everything entertainment.

Main Duties:
  • Sourcing stories from live TV coverage and the wider world of entertainment
  • Coming up with angles on the news that are fresh, enticing and optimised for digital publishing
  • Writing and publishing breaking news stories
  • Assigning stories and managing workflow for the freelancer pool
  • Assisting the Editor in matters of team admin and analytics
What We Are Looking For:
  • Two years’ experience in digital entertainment news, ideally as a section editor or deputy news editor.
  • You’ll have a thorough understanding of the demands of digital journalism, including the importance of SEO and metadata.
  • You don’t have to be a Soaps expert, but a working knowledge of key characters and current storylines in at least one Soap would be an advantage.
  • Given the working hours, we are open to hiring on a part-time, job-share, pro rata basis (for example, one person working two evenings per week, another person working three). Please flag on application if this applies to you.
  • You will be motivated to always communicate accurately and concisely, and comfortable writing in Digital Spy’s authoritative but conversational tone.
Benefits:
  • Hearst Exclusives - Only for You: Get adventurous with Good Housekeeping Taste and Beauty Testing Panels, and access to luxe beauty steals at office sample sales.
  • Inclusion, Health & Wellbeing: Specsavers eye care, a company-funded Health Cash Plan, mental health support, discounted gym memberships, Cycle to Work scheme, Location Flex, Holiday Exchange, Charity Day, wellbeing resources, and Hearst ERG Groups.
  • Financial Wellness: Workplace Pension, Income Protection, Life Assurance, Season Ticket Loan, Salary Finance tools, Financial Wellbeing sessions, and Home Tech benefits, plus major discounts across London and the HAPI at Hearst app.

Hearst UK is deeply committed to using our influential brands to reflect the world we want to live in – one that respects, protects, represents and uplifts the voices and opinions of all people.
