The Role… As Weekend Editor you will be responsible for steering the reactive news and feature output of Digital Spy, one of the UK's best and most trusted entertainment news websites, between the hours of 3pm and 11pm on Saturdays and Sundays. You will source and write breaking news stories about TV, Movies and Soaps, as well as deciding angles and assigning stories to our team of out-of-hours freelancers. Answering to the Editor, you will play a vital role in maintaining Digital Spy's international reputation for accuracy and our comprehensive coverage of everything entertainment.
Main Duties…
- Sourcing stories from live TV coverage and the wider world of entertainment
- Generating and writing highly engaging angles that are fresh, enticing and optimised for Google Discover
- Writing and publishing breaking news stories
- Assigning stories and managing workflow for freelance reporters and subs
- Assisting the Editor in matters of team admin and analytics
What We Are Looking For… A keen, TV and Movies-obsessed writer/editor who loves sharing their insight and expertise with other fans. You will have at least two years' experience, ideally as a section editor or deputy news editor, in digital entertainment news. You will have a thorough understanding of the demands of digital journalism, including Discover optimisation, SEO and metadata. Familiarity with Microsoft business software (Planner, Excel, Teams, etc) is highly desirable and experience with Hearst's CMS and Google Analytics/Google Search Console are a plus. You will have a clear and up-to-date understanding of UK media law, especially as it relates to privacy, defamation and copyright. You will be motivated to always communicate accurately and concisely, and comfortable writing in Digital Spy's authoritative but conversational tone.
